Just came across this article in the Rivertown Pump and Boiler News and don't know what to make of it. I have heard nothing about this.

" In a surprise announcement today, the U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency released this joint statement regarding bio-mass and wood burning boilers.
The EPA director in charge of the new program, Mr. Wood, told the Rivertown News that, "new research has come to light regarding the benefits of solid fuel boilers." This research was conducted by a consortium of manufacturers across the industry in Europe and the United States and proved without doubt that the technology exists to make the flue gas discharged by boilers using this technology, cleaner than the combustion air entering the boiler. "This breakthrough will have worldwide impact" according to the EPA spokesperson, "as it has the capability of halting global climate change within 5 years time". Also noted was the fact that after the five years of atmospheric cleanup, care would have to be taken that CO2 levels would not be reduced too far. "This would result in reverse climate change and should be avoided at all costs," according to the multinational consortium that pioneered this new form of combustion.
The new technology involves preheating the combustion air to over 700*C and then injecting it at "hyper velocity" into a proprietary tungsten/ceramic chamber where the burn actually takes place. Combustion is so efficient that the heat generated by the process is actually used to power an on board steam driven compressor that develops the 250psi air pressure needed to effect the ultra high temperatures created.
In a graphic example of how well it works, this reporter was shown a test report where air from Beijing, China was passed through the combustion chamber and tested. The exhaust air contained less contaminants than the air from the Chinese city's streets by a factor of 9x.
DOE personnel highlighted the fact that effective immediately, $6,000 energy tax credits will be available for anyone purchasing one of these boilers when they hit the market later this year. " (No unit cost information was available at press time)
It was also stated that this new technology would be shared across the industry and that all manufacturers will be required to use it in their respective products with no exceptions. All other forms of combustion technology will be banned within 90 days and existing gas, oil and wood burning equipment must be taken out of use by December 31st 2012.
A government program is "in the works", according to an deputy secretary to the DOE director, "that will reimburse consumers who have existing fuel burning appliances of any type, up to a maximum of $15,000".
The DOE secretary also said that this technology would be, "applicable to many other forms of energy using devices and mechanisms and we expect to phase out fossil fuel use by the year 2045".

If I had it in hardcopy I'd make a firestarter of it. Way too over-the-top to take seriously IMO. Reverse global warming in 5 years, lol. I'd love to be wrong though.

Don't they need to run the smoke through a flux capacitor also, couldn't see how you could do it without one, Randy

LMAO great one, was gonna say that must be an OWB salesperson, until I re read the correspondent name that is. However ANY owb salesperson would be happy to dream this up & publish it in their flyer LOL.
Puts that 99% eff. OWB claim to shame. LOL have a great April Steve.

It sounds like that would require a lot wood product. Where would all the wood come from? And would the government provide people to load the burning devices with product because a lot of households don't have someone with enough ambition to get off the couch.

Heaterman,

I just googled CO2 eating boiler, and found a article from the Washington Post dated April 1, that said the lead researchers from the Dept. of Energy have all mysteriously died or have gone missing, since this announcement. The FBI has refused to comment, saying the known deaths are under investigation!

Thanks for making me smile first thing today!

April Fools day!

I am with Fred61 - I do like the part about the 90 days - Government /90days ---------------------Don't think so!!!

I already have one of those and have reduced global warming here in Michigan this spring. Now all the spring break people are mad at me. They are going to picket me so i guess I'll just detune the eko and burn it normal.

Yah it is a cold one this spring. Three mornings this week below zero up here. The farmers are all comparing this year to last when many of them were starting to drill their oats in already. Just talking to one in the hardware store this morning who said he had all his oats and new alfalfa seeding in the ground by April 7th last year.

Keep up the good work Les. :)

Some Volvos actually had special smog eating radiators as an option.
Not enough of them on the road to make much difference.

Sounds like an April Fools joke to me!!!!

Effecta , that sounds about right. I use about 12 face cords in 2200 sq. ft. ranch in Wisconsin.

I hate it when this happens. The article is substantially misleading in several areas. One is that (this will raise many eyebrows) CO2 is downright awful and dangerous and is the root cause of global warming. Truth is that CO2 is an insignificant heat storing (and releasing) gas. If its concentration were doubled or even quadrupled current levels, its impact would hardly be measured. Secondly the "space" boiler exhausted " air contained less contaminants than the air from the Chinese city’s streets by a factor of 9x." (Beijing) If Beijing's concentration of CO was, say 1.99 ppm (normal day's average measurement in 2008), a reduction of 9x would be what? .222 ppm. EPA says that 10 ppm is tolerable constantly,25 ppm would be in breath of smokers, 200 ppm is max upper limit and the level CO alarms will sound off at after several hours of exposure and 800 ppm is lethal is less than 2 hrs in most humans. I guess my concern is at what level of undesirable gas with this boiler clean? If the level is at the average found in Beijing's air in 2008 (the air in now better quality) then a 9x reduction is not very significant. If it's at the lethal limit, then hooray.
