Does pin oak get punky faster than other oaks? I think I read this here, but can't remember if it was pin oak or something else...

Thanks!

Hope not. Cause if the fella's here are right. Then I got A LOT of Pin Oak I am gonna be cutting. But, if it does, it would be nice to know.

Your about 30 minutes East of me. I live just off 224 in Sullivan Ohio. Lots of Ohioans on here. (Woodburners anyways. Not so many Pellet Burners)

Hello there, neighbor! I just had a cord of oak delivered ($100!). A few had a little punk on them, not enough to be worried about, but I thought one of the oaks punked a bit prematurely... Hopefully someone will know.

Most red oaks will get some punk on the outside but usually an inch or so and it is nothing to worry about. I did have a pin oak die and was surprised at how much punk was on it. I'm guessing I may have thrown about 1/3 of it away because it was too punky. I just sliced the edges off and kept the center....which was still full of moisture as if it were still alive!

Thanks Dennis!
