With Speeco raising their prices and Huskee most likely to follow, I took advantage of the current sale (until May 15) and current need (4 cords of Black Locust to split) and picked one up this afternoon.

Paid 999.00.

Should meet all of my needs.

Congrats on the new splitter! Though they have their ups-n-downs, I am thus far very pleased with mine. Change the engine oil at or before 5 hours and the hydraulic filter at 25 hours. Check all of the nuts, bolts, screws, etc.,. Watch your hands and fingers! I've split some tough red oak with mine so far...I think if I was to split a round of pine with mine it wouldn't even know it was there. :)

Best wishes and good score!!!

Current Web price is 1199.00. So I thought that 999 was good.

Yelp, price has gone up. I just mentioned in another thread about a reduced price one I saw this evening...regular price was stated at the store as $1199.00...and was reduced down to $1149.00. I bet they would have honored the sale price and knocked $50 off of it. Anyhow, the regular price of the non-CARB model is now the same as the CARB model.

Ed,

I want to thank you for sharing your problems with your first splitter. That really helped me know what to look for when picking mine up.

Thanks again.

The price increase is $200.00 from what it was. I don't think that there's $200 worth of steel in the entire splitter but not knowing about steel prices I guess there could be. The US let China buy up vast quantities of our scrap metal...a basic building block of an industrialized country. I believe what is prompting the increase is what is hitting all of us...naturally steel has gone up in price but so has energy costs, transportation costs, etc., etc.,. Remember this discussion twelve months from now and look at where food prices are at that time and compare them with where they're at now...I'm afraid it may be a somber reality check...I hope I'm wrong!

It is steel (pun intended) interesting to me that the non-CARB unit and the CARB unit are the same price whereas just recently there was the $200 difference in the two. And now the "sale" price of $999 has popped up. I think that Speeco is in motion to discontinue the non-CARB unit or TSC is in motion to quit handling it, or a combination of it all.

Shoot, don't thank me...thank all the folks that put up with my ramblin's. :)

Glad some of it helped. So far I'm very pleased with my Huskee. It hasn't missed a beat yet, though I've just changed the break-in oil so I don't have but a touch over five hours on it. Time will tell....

Take care and enjoy the splitter, it'll be a good one and if you have any problem Speeco has some good customer support and TSC ain't too shabby with a little coaxing. ;)
