I have an old Fisher 'papa bear' wood stove about 25 years old. It heats my house really well except it goes through wood like there is no tomorrow. It will burn up a 10" log 28" long in 2 hours! I have 50 acres of woods and I am thinking it may take it all.
Seriously, I saw at Patio Hearth Home and Garden Store a catalytic combustor advertised for Fisher wood stoves. Says burn times increase up to 50% while you can receive up to twice the heat from your old fisher. (I emailed asking if it is UL listed.)

Anyone know about this? Could it be for real? If that could bring new life to my fisher while I cut less wood it would truly be a 'Godsend.' But I don't want to waste $118. to find out.

I think if you talk to Patio Hearth you are going to find out that the item is a replacement combustor for stoves that originally had one in them. I don't remember any cat Pappa Bears but maybe Craig will correct me if there were any.

Anyway, if your stove didn't come with a combustor originally then this would not be installable in your stove.
 
Sounsd to me like an add on cat combustor, similar to the stovepipe cat combustors, if not the same thing.

Frankly, while it adds cat technology and will result in cleaner burns, I would be highly sceptical how a claim of 50% longer burn times could be true.

Yeah, from the looks of the part you posted papabear, there is no hope unless your stove was originally equipped with a cat combustor from the factory.
 
Well the folks at Patio Hearth referred me to the manufacturer, who is Condor. The man told me forget it. The convertors really need to come originally with the stove for them to work properly. Or they do not get hot enough and plug up. He said save my money and put it towards a new stove to replace my Fisher.
That is my plan now, to save up some money and get a really efficient, clean burning new woodstove that burns less wood for the same BTU's.
