ST. JOHNSBURY - Governor Shumlin is trying to adopt a $500 incentive for people trying to change their heating source from oil burners to wood pellet systems.
"Now that fuel prices are going back up, people are getting more interested in it." Gary Hail, from Appalachian Supply in St. Johnsbury explains about pellet stoves.
Homeowners already are eligible for a $500 state incentive when they switch from older, less efficient heaters that use fossil fuels like oil or kerosene. Shumlin says that wood pellets are the way to go. He believes that pellets are best for the states environment and economy.
Shumlin plans to use funding from Efficiency Vermont for the incentive.
