Well, here she is, the new Jotul F600 installed.

I know it is not the prettiest place for such a nice stove, but I didn't buy her for her looks (although she is a purty thing!). Cannot wait to light that first fire, probably when the rest of the family is out of the house in a couple of weeks.......

I will be certain to post pics after the install.

REm, I'm right there with you! My stove is still sitting in the garage as I wait for my mom to bring down the slate. This is torture i tell you, pure torture.

And her is a pic of the old girl leaving.....amazing how much of an attachement we have with our stoves. I kept the handle off the front door as a keepsake. Will have to think about what I am going to do with it......

How big is the handle? Can you attach it to one of your Tools? Like a shovel or poker??? Just a thought. Then you can have it in your hand every-time you clean/tend the new stove.. Just rambling.... That's the 1st thing that popped in my mind. Better than hanging it on the wall. Least it would be used and have a story behind it. Congrats on the new stove. My basement looks exactly like yours. Don't apologize. I thought that it was my basement... LOL

Pretty stove! How long did the install take?

All of 20 minutes. We decided to offset the stove to give a little room from the boiler. I could not turn it like the old stove because of the right side door. I cannot wait to start a fire in her. A couple of inspections and I am ready to roll!

Yeah, it is just the Jotul is a pretty stove-- someday the basement will be finished and a proper place of honor will be established for the girl!

Had a grin on my face since the day I put the downpayment on it.....today was a bittersweet day- stove that they took away was my Pepere's- had a lot of attachment and memories with that stove....but the new girl is quickly making me see things differently.

Rem,

It is pretty lousy getting a stove in the off season. I'm in the same boat with my F3 I picked up last weekend. It is to bad that beauty can't be upststairs where it can be admired. Good luck with it.

Hey Cuz, Looks fantastic! You are going to love the Jotul. A simple stove to run, as well. I would keep the old stove as a "turbo-charged" chiminea. I am always on the lookout on CL for a stove just for that purpose.

Ps: I bet you burn a cord less per year with the Jotul as well!

Wish I had known you were looking- I would have brought her your way and kepth the stove in the family.

Heck, if I get the same service out of this stove as the VC Vigilant gave Pepere and I, I will be 70+ when I go to switch stoves again, but you are welcome to this one when that day comes. :)

Good luck with that beautiful stove! It's a shame to see it in the cellar where it's pretty much unseen!! Now you need to renovate the basement so you can admire the stove all the the time :)

Ray,
As I was sitting on a milk crate in the basement the other day imagining the secondaries dancing a wonderful ballet in the stove I suddenly realized just what you suggested- I am going to have to finish the basement and give the girl her stage.

Who ever said wood stoves save you money? :coolsmirk:

I am very interested in an update on this thread come January. Looking forward to a comparison of a Vigilant to a Firelight. The Vig nearly lost it's starting job this week to a Mansfield. Due to a stupid owner, the Vig retains it starting gig.

Looking at a Firelight and a 2-in-1 Defiant as a replacement... and, obviously, a Mansfield. (One of these days I'll buy new as oppose to used... one of these days.)

Glad you got yourself another stove. I remember all the creosote issues you had with the Vig. Good luck to you!

I'll be waiting to hear how you like it after you start it up. I have a F3 CB upstairs and a Summit downstairs that i bought instead of the Jotul 600. If i had a do over..would probably get a blaze king.

I am certain I will keep you posted on this. I think a lot of the creosote issues were the chimney as opposed to the stove- bad clay liner joints. Went with the new stove because it did not make sense putting in an 8" pipe when so many of the new stoves are 6". It was also a piece of mind thing as well as an attempt to reduce the wood useage a little.

Take care!
