My wife and I walked between the upper and lower Tahquamenon Falls last Saturday. It turned out to be a beautiful day, but the mosquitoes were thick! The first shot is the upper falls, then some Jack-In-The-Pulpits, deer, beaver damage, lower falls, and final button. Our traveling companion told us that there are shelves in the lower falls picture that you can actually swim out to and under and sit there under the waterfall. The small section of the lower falls picture doesn't show all of the lower falls as there is an island splitting the river and there are falls on each side. Enjoy!

One of my favorite places to go. If you go in the summer there will be many people sitting out on the rocks on the lower falls. I always thought it would be fun to take a week or two and explore all the falls in the U.P. Dave.

Exploring all the falls in the UP would take lots of time for sure!

Uper, aren't those ledges under the upper Tahquamenon Falls? But I'm not sure they will let you go there anymore.

For a real thrill, snowshoe back to the Falls sometime around March 1. It is really beautiful then and makes for a nice walk on some really deep snow.

there actually used to be another set of falls, but they were blasted out during the logging days in order to create less log jams! try that now-a-days!

Dennis, the lady we hiked with lives just down from the 76 station there by the lower falls. She said her son used to swim out there and sit under the ledges and that was while we sat by the section of lower falls in the picture. That was probably years ago as she is 71 years old. BTW, she made the whole 4 mile hike. They probably would frown on anyone getting out there today. It certainly is a beautiful area and while we haven't been out on the trails in the winter yet, we do visit the falls throughout the year.

hey Uper-you didn't, by chance, happen to stop by the bear ranch now, did ya? have you ever been there? do you remember "tyson"??

Dave, don't you have enough bear around where you live and have to go to Newberry?

99 lbs favorite animal! next to dogs...and i mean real dogs, not the little house dogs that are hairy and you spray with endust and then chase them under the furniture! the inside of the cottage is starting to look like a retreat for bears.
the last one we saw was a couple weeks back...about 100 yds. stayed still and watched it for about 10 min. i don't think it saw us because it was advancing the whole while. finally veered off at a 90 and that was the end of it.

Maybe 99# would like to lasso one and then go for a ride?

No I didn't stop by the bear ranch. I used to inspect different exhibits like that and pretty much got my fill during that 6.5 years of my life. Apparently if you take the Tooneyville Trolley there is an old dumpsite on the route where the bear hang out and the riders get to see them. The bear probably hear the train and come out of the woods for a handout. Of course, you can't do that, but you know how that goes!
