Here in West Central Iowa we've been getting a lot of rain and I've been worried about rain coming down my chimney, so I taped some plastic wrap over the chimney cap and chimney top. Now I'm wondering if that will hurt anything. Will it?

As long as you remove it prior to your next fire, you should be okay. I assume this is a chimney for your wood burning stove or fireplace not one for a furnace or hot water heater.

When you open that thing up is when you'll find them - THAT'S what caused me to hafta jump...Seemed like 5000 yellowjackets came after me, but after an 8 foot drop & roll & a sprint to my service van, I managed to escape without any venomous injections...They say only a bee that feels threatened will sting you, but ONLY he knows when he's threatened...
Not sure if this applies to wasps and hornets. but for bees, it's the ladies defending the nest. The guys are lazy and just hang out once they've serviced the queen.

It won't hurt anything as long as you remember to remove it before you have a fire. I would put a big sign inside the stove to remind you.

Wait a minute, hold the presses..............the Cap on my chimney does a great job of keeping the rain out, all by itself.......
Makes me wonder why there is a problem, if at all?

Some people worry about things more than others. He/she doesn't say they HAD any water in it , or what they thought it might hurt, just that they worried about it, then worried about what they did to calm those old worries...
I can't for one see how some small bit of moisture is going to damage my all stainless steel chimney.. and I have honestly had no thoughts at all about rain getting in my chimney, even though we have had almost 40 inches of rain already this year...(about a full years worth already) Maybe it will "hydrate" all my creosote and make it fall off on it's own..
We moved into this place a year ago and it had a nice stainless steel chimney over and old Fisher stove. Rain DID get into it somehow, though not a lot. We bought a new Lopi Endeavor soon after we moved in, and I thought this Spring that I would like to prevent ANY water from coming down the chimney, if possible. Hence, the plastic wrap. Thank you for your opinions and comments. They are most certainly appreciated.
