Hey folks!
Actually lit the stove this morning!! It was mid-fifties outside, and about 65ºF in the house, so I fired her up. Didn't take long to heat up the house, and didn't let it go much past the initial burn and a couple of splits. Just enough to take the chill outa the air.
2011 has proven to be, and is anticipated to be, a tough year. Taxes were heavy this year, after our home remodel, and the wife's M.S. is developing more in a negative way, symptomatically.
We streamlined our budget and cut out things that are unnecessary, even though (thankfully) I'm still working. Hadn't lost my job or had a layoff, during all this bad economic stuff, thank God.
So the "Internet" and e-mail were put down for a while. (writing this at work.....shame, shame). We cut back our Cable Television contract to "Basic" (which stinks, but heh), and stopped the newspaper. Doing everything we can think of, to ease the budget.
I'm hoping that the cord and a half I have left in the back yard will be sufficient to fill some of the colder spots during the depth of winter this coming Jan/Feb, and will reserve it for then, since we can't afford more wood for now.
Anyone of you in Connecticut that would like to Barter for a Fender Stratocaster (American Special Series, not Mexican)? I have a row of shrubs next to my driveway that has to dissappear.
You pull em out, and remove all the shrubs and crap, and the guitar is yours. (in excellent condition, with a hardshell case and strap, also in excellent condition). I've also got a Kustom Solid State Amp that can go with it, if need be.
Hopefully 2012 will be a better year.

I'd be over in a NY minute if my back wasn't so bad these days.....

Still, that pic is going to tempt someone might bad....I would not be surprised if you have a taker right quick.........I can just imagine someone with a less guitar drooling.

Somehow, Waynes World is once again coming up in my head.....

Sorry to hear about the health problems....the economy sucks and most of us (except my 18 mon. old grand baby) are over the hill....meaning headed downward. It's nice to have one body in the extended family on the way up the hill.

Sorry to hear the year is off to a rough start Soup. Hope things settle down and improve the rest of the year. For sure it will get warmer.

That is a beautiful guitar and cold be worth several hundred dollars if it's an older, made in USA model. Hopefully we can rustle up some wood for you too.

BeGreen: (et al)...........appreciate the "warm" thoughts.

The warming trend is is starting back up again here in New England. We didnt have an average June at all this year. Im hoping July will be better.

Nice guitar, some one will be happy, too bad you did not live closer as I could give you some wood, hang in there soupy, soupy hang on. Hope things work out for you and your wife.

Sure wish we were closer Soupy....that guitar is sweet...
Your post really makes me think about many things....2 of my friends have MS as well and both are my age...42...one is doing very well but the other not too good now, she has developed Lupus as well and many other issues...gives me a reality check and not to "sweat" the stupid small stuff in life...
Best wishes and hope things look up for you both...

thanks, all

Soupy,

I live in the New London area and am in the USCG. I can help all you need come August as I am leaving for some TDY coming up and I have some Leave time coming in August, due to this trip, from work. I also will probably have some wood if need be come this winter that I would be more than happy to let you have. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help over a weekend in August. PM me or something. Where in CT do you live again? How from from the New London area specifically.

Just holler come August via PM and I (and maybe the 2 year old if you don't mind hanging with a little guy) might have to just come and visit and see how we both can help out if you need anything. He is great at providing solid and liquid "fertilizer" for the yard, if you know what I mean. Ha.

Good luck and stay in touch,

Bears

If that's really the case....that Strat's into the 4 digits easy.

Edit: Sorry, I'm wrong. After looking at the photo, I don't think it qualifies as "older" enough. I don't want to say much more and ruin the barter. But I will say, (not having seen the shrubs he's talking about), it's worth more than a day of yardwork. Especially with HS case, etc.

Hey, Happy Summer.
Hearth.com would like to add a cord of wood to your collection......
Perhaps a member here could arrange it and send me the bill...unless you already have a decent vendor, in which case you can let me know.....

It won't get you though the winter, but it will be a good start...and allow you to throw a couple splits in if you get a chill this summer....

Oh, if you'd rather have a ton of bio logs, we can arrange that too.....

Outstanding!

Hearth.com is awesome !
I see Craig asked for members to supply the firewood if possible. I would like to quote a cord of Oak Madrone mix delivered from Washington for $2,2000.00. If this fits in the budget just credit my account and it's on the way. This will be the finest cord of wood the East has ever seen. This can be viewed at www.nwfuel.com to answer any concerns.

Today Super Cedar sent a case to help Mrs. Soupy with the firestarting needs.

Take care out there!
Thomas

Awesome Thomas.

Hate to pop the western bubble though, madrona is nice, and a beautiful tree, one of my favorite hardwoods. But for btus, it is not close to locust or osage orange. Hickory and ironwood are pretty darn good too.

You are correct BeGreen, but I think I have a live one on the post below. I only need to sell 1 out of every 25 that inquire. All they ask for is a FULL cord and less than 15% moisture:)

Soupy, we are so sorry to hear about the bad news. Let's not look too much at 2012 yet because good things can still happen in 2011. We are not even half the way through this year! Please tell the wife too that many on hearth.com are wishing her well and will send some special prayers for her.

Bears, Craig and Thomas: You guys really shine! You are the tops and show exactly what hearth.com and the members really are. You will be blessed for sending blessings to those in need. Thank you very much.

Thomas, dat ist da price fer Mr. Gates and Allen down da road.......what's our price, personally delivered by you towing your trailer?
Y'all get a free few days at the beach if ya make it this far....

I am still laughing, I do not have a trailer. One of these day's I am going to show up. All joking aside it would cost 300.00 per pallet just for transportation times 2 pallets. Then air fare for 3 and it still comes out to $2200.00 per cord.

The Fender American Series Stratocaster typically sells for $699.00. It is made in the USA and was introduced within the last couple of years, for those who could not afford the Strats that cost a couple of thousand dollars, but who didn't want a guitar made in Mexico.

In my humble opinion (being a guitar player for over 40 years, and having made somewhat of a living with my guitars), the Strat I'm Bartering is in excellent condition, plays smoothly, and is worth more than the removal of the shrubs would cost me if a Landscaper did the work under Contract. I simply have no cash to spend (zero, zilch, nada) and so I am forced to Barter.

I believe that the person who spends the few hours it will take to get rid of our unsightly shrubs for us, will reap the benefit for years to come, with the guitar. Well worth the work, in my opinion.

-Soupy1957

P.S. I didn't start this thread to create a pity party for soupy1957 by the way. Sure, times are tough for us right now, that's true. I think I just came in here and laid it out because I knew that there were folks in here who have genuinely caring hearts, and who might also be guitar players, and might be interested in the Barter presented.
Some folks have offered wood, when I wasn't asking for any; some folks have expressed an interest in the Barter; I had an offer of free SuperCedars, which absolutely humbled me, .....it just goes on and on!
Two things will ultimately be accomplished......the wife will be thrilled that the unsightly shrubs and undergrowth are gone, and some person will be playing a really neat Strat for years to come, and remember the sweat equity they expended, to have it.

I've said it before . . . and I'm sure I will say it again . . . there is no place . . . and no members of any BBS . . . quite like hearth.com . . . folks here genuinely care about each other . . . and it shows.

Hang in there Soupy!
