My 30 year old wood boiler finally sprung a leak right at the end of last heating season. I've done a lot of reading on here about gassifiers ,and have decided on a bio mass 60.my old boiler was hooked up directly to 3 zones, each with there own circulator pump. i have no back up heat to tie into. can i connect the new boiler the same way the old one was ,directly to the zones or do i have to go through a buffer tank or manifold. also would i need another circulator pump hooked up to the new gassifier or would the exzisting ones be sufficient.i have no storage yet but hope to in a year or two. any advice would be greatly appreciated .

Other folks here know much more about the hookups, and Im not familiar with the biomass line. You will want to install tempering valve at the very least, or a laddomat loading valve. This makes sure that the water coming back to your boiler is at least 140 to avoid condensation and corrosion of the boiler.

Im not sure of the BioMass, but most gasifiers require storage, as they are not meant to cycle on and off. The Tarm Solo Plus can be run without storage, but Im not sure of any others. Ill let the pros chime in here on that.

I know that the biomass can be run without storage ,but I think a buffer tank with a circulator hooked to the biomass may be the way to go without storage. It seems it would give the biomass somthing to heat when the zones arn't calling for heat. I'm no pro so just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. You have to have a circulater hooked to the biomass for the controlls to work.

Buffer tank....I like that idea.

Did you installl one?

No I have 1,000 gallons of storage.

a couple of dealers of other gassifiers said they could connect to my zones using a manifold.anyone done or heard of doing it that way
