If you had to make an educated guess:

How many cords would a truckload of (not neatly stacked just tossed in there) split wood be?
-The dimensions of the truck bed are 10L X 7W X 4H. Length of cuts 16-24 inches.

280 cf of tossed split wood = how many stacked cords?

My guess 1 3/4 cords. What is your guess? Or do you have experience to tell me a more accurate answer?

just under a cord and a half. I'm gonna order a truck load and I'll let you guys know what it turns out to stack to. The guy said he'll let me stack it count it and then tell him what he owes me. We'll see how that works out.

Anyone else think it would be any amount other than just under a cord and a half?

Depends on the moisture content!

he said it has been split and in a tossed pile for 4-5 months

I have no education so I won't guess.

Okay. I guess there is a good amount of wood in there. Will that do Ed?

Is that a "dictionary" good amount of wood or just a regular good amount of wood?

Its a pastel of wood.

My favorite wood guy gives me 180 cu. ft. in his truck and he says that comes out to a cord neatly stacked. I stacked his deliveries several times tight as I could and I always got more, so I no longer bother to measure it. 280/180=1.56 cord. Add in a little extra and let's call it 1.6 cord... or exactly one cubic pastle of wood.

Pre or post delivery 280 cf ?
Some settling of contents may occur during delivery ...

ok So the delivery came today. Here are some pics. Any guesses based on the images? I took these as soon as he dropped it.

*Note these are all images of the same pile. And the stacked pile in the background is not a part of the delivery.

I stacked a good amount of it tonight. We'll see how much it is once it's all stacked.

Since you're on the East Coast where you have all those face cord thingys, you have to walk around the pile and look at it from three directions and add those up to get a full cord. The idea of this makes my head hurt, which is why I don't live there. The East Coast is not for puny weaklings!

1-1.25 cords.

Funny cause I bought wood this weekend and as soon as he unloaded truck I knew it was short. He said it was a heavy cord (as in over). Well after I stacked it, I only had 3/4 of a cord.

I am thinking a little more than a cord but those splits are big so it Prolly close to 1.5 around there ....
But if you resplit some of it you can make it what u want!

A few ricks there. Or about 1.56 dictionary cords.

I'll get it all stacked and get back to you with some good solid cords. --None of this face cord nonsense.

The guys said it was two cords and anything under that he'll come back and deliver the difference. We'll see how this whole thing turns out.

Wish I had a cord for every time I heard that promise.

Still waiting for a face cord I got shorted last November by a local guy I was trying to help get started. Price was good, but he said he had to deliver it a face at a time because that was all his truck held. I paid for the cord in good faith after the second one and then never got the third. After numerous phone calls and e-mails the guy gave me such a big sob story I actually fell for it.

He said he got too sick to cut, his truck needed a new transmission (again, a cord for every time I heard that one before, how many trannys do these guys go through a year?), he didn't have the money for gas (I offered to pay for his gas), his saw was broke (I said I'd come out and he could use one of mine), couldn't afford to get his chain sharpened (Oh, c'mon...), etc. Now, six months later, I just saw his ad and phone number on Craigslist again last week. I'm done trying, I'll have to chalk it up to experience and move on. Thankfully, I'm all set well ahead of time this year with four cord of primo black birch.

Good luck. That load looks way too short of two cord to me... but photos can be deceiving. I still say 1.6 cord.

When people make promises like that hurry and stack it . A couple of weeks go by and you had time to move the wood... A day or 2 they really can't say anything.... Trust me learned the hard way ....
And move the wood means you moved it , or someone could have possibly been stealing it or anything the wood guy wants to think of...

I was told 225 for a load of wood , which would be at least 1.5 but closer to .1.75 a load .. this was when seasoned wood was 175 -
So $675 later looking for at least 4.5 cords but according to him at least 5 cord turned out 3 ....
He left it on the outside of my fence claimed someone must have stolen some wood . Then questioned me about taking 2.5 weeks to question him....
Then gave me the dimensions of his truck to justify his calculations.... Which was the problem that he won't accept another stacked vs tossed in ... He figured tossing in was 180cu ft and since he went high in the middle meant 1.75 cords or 2 if he pushed it
Needless to say he doesn't come by anymore
And log length in the sitting for 2years in a pile was seasoned ...

So.... I got screwed!
