Did you check the impulse line?
 
If there is any question about compression you can pull the muffler off, and see how the piston looks. Hope it is not like this one. (not mine)

If you're getting fuel, it probably isn't the impulse line but I'd check it, especially where it comes off the engine on the clutch side.

+1 on this. I just put the hd air filter on mine. It would start, but barely, and wouldn't stay running. When I pulled the top cover off, the line wasn't completely off the motor, but it was split on the end.

Hey BK - The thing is that the 180 could smoke it cause my $%^ saw still wont start!! I'll take another look at the impluse line. Otherwise, new carb will be here this week.

The problem is that the cylinder is getting absolutely flooded with fuel even after carb rebuild (new diaphrams) and adjustment. Seems like it has to be a carb problem? I removed and cleaned the metering needle and all of that stuff. Would a bad impulse line mean the saw would NOT be getting fuel?

Ouch! No I pulled the cylinder off and the piston still looks like new which it pretty much is (just got the 7900 P&C a few months ago).

Last time I had a flooding issue that bad, I took the carb apart and found the metering needle spring was missing.
 
Yes, impulse line should mean no fuel. If it is getting flooded, I would agree the spring could be missing or the lever setting is way off.
 
Resolved!! Received my new carb today from Amicks, slapped it on, and I now have a perfectly running saw again. Not sure specifically what was wrong with the old carb but after changing the diaphrams I suspect metering needle, welsh plug, or something.
