Very new user with questions about the fresh air kit on a Harman

I have been watching this forum for some time and have just bought and received a Harman P35i insert and I am having problems installing the fresh air kit. The outside air intake attachment will not match up with the air intake hole on the stove. The bottom screw can be attached but there is a quarter inch gap on the top between the intake adapter and the fresh air hole on the stove. I don't know if I made this understandable at all but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know what I can do so the adaptor mates up with the air intake on the back of the insert.

Not to dodge the actual question about the fit, but............did you buy this "insert" from a dealership that has a Service group or has Customer Service help? I'd consult with them first, so that you don't do anything that could void any Warrantee that exists.

any chance your mistakenly got the air intake assembly for the Accentra INsert instead of the one for the P35i?

I would contact your dealer on this.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. The box and instructions says it's for the P35i but you may be right in that it's for another insert. I will contact the dealer this morning to see what they recommend.

The pic below shows the 4 Stub Mounting Bolts that mount the OAK adapter to the stove.
If your adapter looks different it may be the wrong one.
Did you check with the dealer?

The manual for the P35I states the following:

Outside Air Kit #1-00-774280 (sold separately) must
be used for attaching outside air to the insert. This kit
contains a 3" stub and gasket to mount to the frame,
and the outside air adapter which secures to the insert
body. The outside air intake connection will seal to the
mounting frame, just like the exhaust does. Follow the
instructions included in the kit to ensure proper installation.

1. Make a determination of where you want to draw
the outside air from. Here are a few options.
a. Punch a hole through the rear of the
fireplace and exterior wall. Rigid pipe or flex
pipe could be used.
b. Use the chimney or chase as a conduit for
outside air. The exhaust liner must be run
the full length of the flue. When creating
your steel plate to seal the damper area,
Make another 3 inch hole for the outside air
pipe. Install a short run of pipe from the
mounting frame through the sealing plate.
Then install the chimney top extension kit,
item #1-00-674104 at the top of the chimney.
This is slotted to allow fresh air into the
chimney or chase.
2. Secure the outside air supply pipe to the stub on
the mounting frame using a minimum of two fasteners.
3. If running the supply pipe direct, install the outside
air cover weldment #1-10-09542 to keep birds or
rodents from entering the supply pipe.
4. Keep the intake a minimum of 4 feet (1.2 m) below
the exhaust termination.

I have talked with the dealer and they are checking on what is wrong. If I can not find a solution, I may return the outside air kit and just punch a hole in the wall and route flexible pipe to the air intake. The picture looks like what I have.

Well in that case I would have the dealer check with Harman. If there is a problem with the Harman OAK kit then Harman would have a TSB - Technical Service Bulletin with the correction or fix!!! That is the way most Stove Manufacturers correct their product errors!

Just do not take IDK (I Don't Know) from your Dealer because they pay Harman for the correct ANSWER!!
 
The installer came out to my house to take pictures and send them back to Harman. Harman's thought the fresh air weldment was welder at the wrong angle. I returned the kit to the dealer and now I am just running a flexible tube from the air intake on the thimble to the back of the insert. Cheaper solution but not as easy. The flexible aluminum tube is only 2" in diameter and I'm not sure that I can slide the insert back into the zero clearance enclosure without the flexible tube crimping. I also hope that the 2" diameter tubing is large enough to allow good air. I'm not sure if just creating a new hole in the wall and running a larger tube would be a better solution... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Harman recommends 2 3/8 inch intake flex. It is a very difficult size to find. If anything I would go to 3 inch and use a hose clamp to secure it to the stove.
 
Thanks. That makes sense to use a 3" inlet. I will have to block the outside air intake from the thimble and drill another hole in the outside wall and run another hose.

I have just realized that it is going to be next to impossible to hook the outside air flexible tube to the Harman insert because of the zero clearance fireplace insert. I have no way to reach around and connect the pipe and ensure that it stays on when I slide the insert back in place. So I guess I am going to order another OAK kit from Harman and hope they send me one that actually connects to the P35i. If the kit works, it will make the installation of the outside air so much easier.
This install is getting to take a little longer than I expected. I know these things happen when you try to install something into an existing enclosure.
