Hi, I've been reading all of the great discussions here and have noticed that one of the fireplaces I'm considering is not present. Does anyone have any experience with the Valcourt Versailles FP9? It looks like a solid unit and at 650lbs it is certainly one of the heaviest! Not familiar with the insert. Looked on their website and see they are owned by SBI(Stove Builders International). If you ask about that you may get more information.

We sell both, and they are both solid units. The RSF unit is nice but I'm not a fan of there damper. I'm a control freak, so when I want a wide open hot fire I don't like how there damper will throttle back the fire if the fireplace is very hot. It's is most likely for the best but I just don't like that one part.
I do also Like the fact you can use a few types of chimney with the Valcourt unit. it can make it a tiny bit easier to install.

The nice thing about the FP9 is it's one of the biggest EPA Phase II (below 4.5 g/hr) non-cat in the market. It's a big 'un and will throw lots of heat. It also has a great warranty.

The installer for the RSF came over yesterday and said the Opel should do good for our setup.
I have read horror stories about stoves that have piped in fresh air causing a lot of cold when not in use?
Another questions regarding the opel is the thermostat hook up, is it any good, I know in our case I would have to change where the thermostat is. I have ranchimneys and stoves before and the Zero clearance doesnt seem that much different, how much of a charge should an install cost?
