Just called my local Newburgh HD, and the girl said they were getting pellets either tonight, or tomorrow night, and the price should be the same as what IHATEPROPANE quoted.

She even said that even if it wasn't, as long as this store can call the one in Ma. and confirm that price, that they would match it here. WOOHOO!

Now I just have to cross my fingers and hope for the Stove Chow or maybe even better. :cheese:

Propane, PM sent.

Uh oh. I see a pellet pig frenzy coming.

Yep BB....it may be starting. I "missed the boat" last winter on the cheap Stove Chows at my local HD, but I won't make that mistake again!

My local HD has no pellets in house. Local Lowes has a few tons up on an inside rack. But no one could give me a price. Waited for the manager to come over. He said 298/ton. I said "I'd see him when the war starts this fall". If I don't buy from the local house with there currant lower priced deals! Local pellet house deals are more than $60 bucks less!

I hope that Chow is good. You guys pretty much talked this cord wood burner into three tons. I was just gonna buy a ton to heat the basement when I was down there doing stuff. Now I am up to my ears in the things and hoping the storage is keeping'em dry. Heck I have to get around to uncovering that 25-PDVC and hooking it up here soon. It is probably worn out. I burned two bags through it three years ago.

Hmmmmmm.....do I hear "oink oink oink"????

Drove by The Pellet Warehouse yesterday. He has $199/ton posted for maine Wood Pellets.

I don't think there will be pellet wars this year, so get them now. I think the price of oil is to stay way above 3 dollars a gallon this winter and a number of people will be looking to buy pellet stoves.

I agree . I think this may be product sale stimulation or old inventory clean out.
Chip prices are pretty high and raw material is in somewhat short supply right now. Really no reason for blow out prices right now.

My local TSC has stackes of pellets from last season. More than any other bigbox I have seen. All stored outdoors too! Don't forget that TSC didn't join the pellet war between HD and Lowes. They lowered their prices, But no where near the low that the other 2 had. I think my local TSC only came down to $229/ton. About $45 more than HD/Lowes sale prices. I am sure that they took a hit in pellet sales because of this.

The Lowes/HD war made ripples for many pellet sellers. Some don't admit it, But this backlog is what is keeping the cost lower than projected. But hang on to your hats! It's not going to last. I see the pellet piles dropping at the local supply houses. They have the specials going on and I have seen some prices increase already. The piles will not stay tall for much longer!

Here's my situation...
Just received 3 tons of Okies - $282./ ton delivered from a local Maine company. However, today when I was visiting at Lowes, they had Greene Teams for $5.59/ bag pick up. That's only $.04 per more bag for Okies - delivered. As far as I know, Greene Teams are not in the same league as Okies - correct me if I'm wrong. This is my 1st year with a pellet stove. I've been told (and understand) about the "shoulder" seasons. However, if the shoulder pellets cost nearly as much as the primo pellets, why bother? Please, bring me up to speed on this one.

Thanks in advance...

Hello

Our HD in Salem does not have them yet as of today.

Glad to hear the $209 price, I need another 1/2 ton for this winter That is $4.18 per bag and what I paid for Maine's choice at Lowe's earlier this spring for 2.5 tons.

Thanks for the info guys, and don't forget if your price is not matched, an email to HD, Lowes or Walmart's Corporate Office can help bring the price down !!!!

That's a good Oink, Oink Pete !!!

Well, it seems that I got some mis-information from the girl at the local HD the other night. I called today (Sat.) and inquired if the pellets had arrived, and was told that no pellets arrived, and none were expected until sometime in August or Sept.

Hmmmmmmm. >:-(

Maybe its a local thing. I was there again today and the display is right in the front door where they keep the carts. Sign was dated 07/07/11 and a stove chow bag was taped to the one ton pallet. Also had a tupperware container filled with the pellets to show the quality. Oxford, MA give em a call.

They are coming my hds don't have pellets but one store they just placed an order... Prolly cause lowes down the street just got them in because tsc a few miles away has had them already.. lol . Get them now for shoulder season burns! I don't think anyone expected these prices.. I sure didn't ! Now if I can just get greenteam or Somerset!

For all Southern NH pellet pigs, I just called the Hooksett, NH Lowes and confirmed they received their Greene Team pellets last week. I also found out that they will be having a sale around 7/14 that may be specific to that store. Supposedly the prices for their in stock Greene Team will be so good, they could not mention the price over the phone. I am hoping they will mirror last years pellet war pricing as their existing $298 a ton is terrible compared to many other local options (TSC, HD). Long live the pellet price wars!

Where the hell am I going to find room for more GT????

JMO, but if you have the choice between Greene Team and Stove Chow go with GT.....

TSC in Highland N.Y. has Instant Heats and Appalachian for $214.50 a ton Not an Instant Heat fan and haven't heard much about the Appalachians. May grab a ton of Appalachians just to try. Feels weird, gonna be 94deg. tomorrow.

Just curious, home heating fuels such as natural gas, fuel oil, propane, and wood pellets are currently exempt from the state sales tax in New York State. Are all retailers aware of this?

Not exactly true. They may be exempt from STATE tax, but there are quite a few local towns & counties in NY that do tax wood pellets. Scroll to the last section of this document:

Yeah ny taxes, I was up buying firewood for camping and the guy charged me tax! I was like wtf! A dollar for town fees and tax off of 15 bucks? .... Buying by the bundle at 15 for a total of $16 a piece! .... Then they wonder why people still bring their own wood!
