Getting my leaf blower ready for a busy coming winter season. I got the PVC and gorilla glued it to the opening. The other opening fits perfect over my 4" opening. Take a look ...

What is the leaf blower for....sorry if this is a newbie question. I had an Eviro EF3 and last winter upgraded to the Enviro M55 FS. Love the stove and just finished a major clean on it. Everything done but the pipe and that is why I was coming on here for pointers.

So the leaf blower in on "suck" with out the bag? What is the vacum for at the end of the clip? I was just going to get the chimmney brush and clean it out but this looks messy and interesting. Neighbours should love me!! lol

I had to re configure my leaf blower because my sucking end was a 6 inch opening. So I had to get the right PVC to make the adjustment. Will be trying it out here soon.

YESSSSSSSSS

The leaf blower has got to be the best way to clean the pipe and inner nooks and crannies.

One word of caution to any newbies, make sure the stove door is open when you SUCK the thing out.

I vacuum the stove completely and the vent (I have direct vent type) then I suck the thing out.

I also turn the stove on so that the axhaust fan is spiining, this helps the loose ash and crud to dislodge and get out.

So I finally gave this a whirl last weekend, either my blower is too small or I did not open the door because it did not move much ash. Up until now I've used the shop vac from the inside, adapted that to a fake brick that fits over the comb blower opening. That works ok, but darn I want some more oomf and thought the leaf blower would do it. If the stove door is closed, no oomf? I was thinking there'd be enought suction through the other openings (hopper, fresh air, etc). What size blowers are you guys using? Now if I could pipe something to the whole house fan, that'd be cool!

Why is it important to close the door when you do it ???

Actually, the best way to do it is to open & close the door while the blower is running....allows a little bit of extra vacuum to build-up and help dislodge that last little bit of ash. Even with the door closed, the air inlet to the burnpot is going to allow some airflow.

Remember, do the leaf blower cleaning AFTER you do the rest of the stove completely, including brushing the pipe out.

I think you still have to use a chimney brush first to loosen up everything, then you hit it with the blower to vacum all the loose bits out?

Yes, along with cleaning the stove first.

Just an update. I finally used the leaf blower I modified today ... since the stove was pretty good and clean already since may alot didn't come out.. but it did work. Looking forward to using it this winter.
