First AND second floors, and the sucker is still standing. Very cool... As I zoom in, though, that particular one looks fairly recent, like 50s or so.

Appears to be a moonshiners paradise up your way. Nice indeed, learned more about the woods with grandpa and dad than anything else.

Yes I dought if either one is as old as me,62 Up until the late 60s and early 70s there were just shacks and hunting cabins (moonshine shacks) because their were no roads just trails,

Ya, the second one looks fairly recent. Very cool! I wonder what it's story is.

Edit: Also note the proper footing under the upstairs fireplace hearth extension. It's doing its job!

Grandpa in 90 and hasnt been in the woods for years dad is 57 and we hunt each fall maybe 2 a week during season. Im 25 so lots of years dragging left.

Thats what me and the 9 yr old grandson did was make up stories and snoop around trying to figure what went on at these places, it was a good day, saw lots of deer and turkeys.

That first one looks like a perfect fit for a Jotul insert.

Sounds like you two had a good day. A good thing.

Glad that you and the younger generation had a great day together! That's the only way knowledge and imagination can be passed.

Thanks for posting pic for us; the other inquiring minds!

I love finding abandoned things like that as they make me wonder was going on when people were there.. One of those buildings would make a great wood shelter! Around here there are remnants of old sawmills located on rivers and streams back when things were water powered.. One drought and you went out of business!

Sounds like a great place to wander around. That can be fun, especially if you have a young one along with you, or a pretty girl.

I always like finding old foundations or hearths in the woods . . . makes you wonder what the place was like when it was built and used . . . especially when the foundations and hearths are clearly old home sites.

I cant WAIT until my son is old enough for those kinds of days together. At two, I still take him from little walks in the woods. Sounds like a great trip Captain. Thanks so much for the photos and the story.

It's amazing to find that old stuff, the best part is hearing a story teller share the story. Nice find....

I always think about posting pics of them when people post clearance to combustibles questions.
