Hi folks!
this is my very first post, sorry it comes at a time of total necessity! I heat my house totally wtih wood, and for all of us that live in the North Eastern US it has been cold the last few days. At any rate the stove that I rely on for the bulk of my heat is an old Glacier Bay, which is in my basement. When I came home from work today, I left the doors open to get it good and hot, and walked away for a minute or two. This is not usually a problem! Well when I came back I found my pipe was glowing in more that one spot, and shortly thereafter began to shoot sparks, small ones but they were sparks! As a result of this I would like to change the pipe, from the stove to the masonry, and without letting it go out I can not get a measurement for the pipe diameter. If any one one of you all, might know the answer to my question, or could stear me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks so much in advance!

John

two doors, step top design? Glacier Bay written across front doors?

If it's top vent, I'm almost certain it will be 8inch pipe

that is the exact one, thanks for the quick reply. you and I are almost neighbors, I live in wantage, sussex county, nj

one close call is not enough? You are lucky to be posting. Please do yourself a favor and let the stove go out. Do not run it one moment more till you have replaced that pipe

I figured that would be one of the respponses that I got. That is what I am going to do!

yeah, we are pretty close.

What's even funnier is my dad usually goes by John P

confused me for half a second!

But seriously, get that stove pipe taken care of asap!!!!!

Thanks again for the quick response. Any where in our area that you recommend to get the pipe? might have a day off tomorrow, would like to get it done at the earliest possible time.

Most of the better hardware stores will carry pipe. Examine your chimney while you're at it. Make sure it's clean. Sounds like you may have had a little chimney fire.

There is a stove shop in montaque that I know of that will have the pipe. The other dealers that would carry it aren't really local to you (sparrowbush, middletown).

Stay away from the light gauge hardware store stuff though

Is it the one on the side of left sie of 206 heading northbound? I'm sure firefox in lafayette has it but I try to avoid them like the plague, very very expensive. Do you know hte names of the one in Sparrowbush, I'm not afraid to drive for a better deal? Thanks!

John's Mower shop is the place in Sparrow Bush. John is the best person to deal with, as far as I'm concerned. Call first though, make sure he's got it there, because it's possible he doesn't. If you do call or go up, tell him Corie sent you over. He'll be happy to know I'm still sending him business.

Otherwise, yeah, the stove shop on montaque is on the left side of 206 heading north. Never dealt with the place, so I can't say anything about it.

Not John's mower shop, outside of Milford, going up route six towards rt 84? The onlly John's that I know of.
