Central MA
Hi everyone! This forum successfully helped me install a wood stove in a house that was not intended to have one. Unfortunetely my wood scrounging has me one season behind so I'm going to need to buy some wood this year.

Does anyone have a source for firewood delivered to central MA? I'm looking at 2-3 cords. There are plenty of craigslist ads, I would rather hear it from someone who has actually dealt with them though.

Thanks!

Are you looking for seasoned wood? Ive been scrounging but when I buy I get it from my BIL for $150 cord, green. Getting seasoned wood. or should I say, wood with a lower moisture content so you can burn this year is another story.

Yes sir, seasoned wood! I've done some scrounging and will have a good supply for next year. I didn't plan ahead and gather my wood before the install. So I'm looking for a few cords of "seasoned" wood in central MA for this upcoming winter.

You'd be better off finding someone who'd let you pick it up too. I rang and rang until someone did. then you go there, educated about trees and pick maples/ash/hickory types. Most avail from what I've seen are oak and maples. Maples are quick to season and with a legit 3-4 months of dry weather left (esp if we get more months like July os far), if stacked sigle rows, open sun/wind you could get lucky or near burnable for the first year. Rent a u-haul, 30 bucks a day for a 6x12. That's how I did it. And found someone who had two cords of ash. Just be persistent and search craiglist high and low for free stuff.

So far all the stuff I've S/S since the spring/winter are maples, lots of sugar and then lots of hickory. I live in within city limits so need to avoid the oak. Plus oak is tooo heavy! so far bark's peeling off and looking very good.

Good luck tho! Come out here too! Tornado's left lots of good stuff.

Ive talked to a couple guys on craigslist advertising seasoned wood, one guy said he cut the tress last year but cut the trees into rounds and split them a month ago, same deal with the other guy I talked too. If you can find someone that has ash, maple etc like the other poster mentioned, that would be your best bet, in the meantime, search craigslist for someone that has seasoned wood and switched to pellets, i got lucky one year and got a few cords that way.

you talking buying wood or "free" wood on CL?
Two different subjects with their own multitudes of issues:)

I was talking about buying wood, the wood i got from the pellet burner I paid for also but I got 4 cords for $300 and it was all oak. Ive seen some ads this year of people selling a couple cords of wood because they switched to pellets but Im all set for wood so I didnt follow up on them.

Rent a UHaul Truck and come up to my place in Southern New Hampshire and pick up two cords of Black Locust. Black Locust is fairly fast drying and I have two cords split and ready to go. Black Locust is PRIMO firewood. PM me if you are interested.

A cord of BL is almost 4klbs. Better have a real heavy duty trailer and good truck for the 8klbs.
