How much are you paying for coal?

They are $100 higher than over I-80 into PA. But for the city, I wouldn't think it is a bad price.

Hrmmm, that's not out of the question. I'm dying for stove size coal, but not a single soul will deliver it to me. Chestnut is great, but our stove burns so sweet on stove coal.

i'll have to find federakes info here is another coal supplier in my area he lives about 5 minutes away from me stocks all coal from rice up to stove prices are about the same

ALso i know what u mean by stove coal burns sweet..i use to burn pea and stove coal in my efel stove then i switched to a stoker easy to maintain...fill the hopper every 2 days emprty the ashes every 3 to 4 days..Now i buy rice coal..We really need to have section on the board for giving away or selling heating equipment..I just gave away 1.5 tons of stove coal to a local family who was having a rough year..Atleast it went to a good cause and not sitting in my basement

Because our older Dutchwest has pretty small coal capacity, it burns longer and with slightly more heat with the bigger pieces of coal. It burns chestnut great, but it burns stove coal just a little bit better. It's noticeable when you're, at best, able to fit about 35 pounds of coal in the stove.


Along the same lines of giving coal away, I've still got between 4 and 500 pounds of pea coal sitting around. Someone is MORE than welcome to come get it.

And although I would have loved to get that coal from you, I'm glad you gave it to a family in need! That's much more important

Hey corie which older dutchwest model do you run? I think mine is the 224 sounds like yours but it seems like stove coal would be to big for mine. the coal supplier by me sells stove coal but the pieces are about 3 to 5 inches. are we talking about the same thing? if so maybe i will try a bag and see if it is better than the nut coal ive been using.

Thanks for the info. Unless your Mike Wilson just drives a 1500 pick up, nope, its someone else. As for me, I live out in Orient Point, so its a bit of a trip. Thinking of a Magnum Stoker installation this summer, burns rice.

you'll love the harman esp once you find the sweet spot..Takes alot of playing and be prepared to go thru several hundrend pounds of coal tell u get the right settings that work for your house.Temps in the teens to low 20's right now 75 in the house 40 to 50 lbs a coal a day

So did you finally work out what the issues were with your heating situation? If I recall, you were burning through coal with not much heat.
BTW, I really like your basement set-up, with the 6" vent going upstairs. I didn't even know they made a stove like that until I saw your photo. How much heat do you get up that vent (what % of the total output of the stove do you guess it is? Can you compare it to anything?)

i was having problems with the old efel stove i had then switched to the harman.venting the air thru the top provides a constant 350 to 500 degrees of heat coming up to the first floor.It's just not enough.it's only a 6" duct feeding a single floor register plus the blower is only 135 cfm.thinking of all ready getting rid of the harman and getting a hyfire II 144K btu output coal stove with dual burning beds plus dual 265 cfm blower fans.That coal stove is designed to be hooked up to a hot air delivery system. I have some issues with the new harman stove which the dealer is coming out tomorrow to look at and to get a draft reading and set the firebox to match it.

we sell coal at 230/ton, bagged, from Blaschak coal.....our locale...western Massachusetts...costs us $900.00 just to get a turck up here from PA.....thats $40.00/ton or so for transportation
