Not worth is - A small generator is about the same price and is a lot more useful.

Talked to APC after running a few fan motors around the house that sounded labored. They said the UPS needs to be a pure sine wave kind to run anything but electronics. So looks like I am going to return it and buy an inverter generator. Looking at about a 2000 watt unit.

Here is my setup. I have used it several times over the last year or so and has run my stove for over 7 hrs with more available.

My Gens...
My Batteries...
My UPS...

2,730,000 watts of back up power!

I just wish it was at my house instead of work!

I do have an APC 750 just for the pellet stove.

Do your homework on that gen and it's output! There are a ton of posts here regarding pure sine vs modified gens....

Can you hook up an inverter to a generator and get the same result. I was planning on getting a 5-6000 generator, of course running other things in the house.

Would a APC battery back up work?

You would have to go...Gen to Converter to Inverter -or- 120v to 12v to 120v.........seems a litte silly to me, you could just spend the $ on a good gen.

I think the safest bet is either a battery back up or inverter generator (just bought one) I had a regular UPS and would not run my stove on it and APC did not recommend using it for anything but electronics. Regular fans sounded like they were running half speed. I may buy a pure sine UPS to give me time to set the generator up with no disruption.
Still debating.
