CORINTH, Maine — An outdoor fire that broke out just after noon Thursday at Corinth Wood Pellets spread inside a nearby building, Fire Chief Scott Bragdon said Friday.

“It started outside in what they call the bagger house, which is where they bag the pellets,†the fire chief said. “Some of the fire got sucked into the building and did damage to a wall and some equipment.â€

Firefighters from Corinth, assisted by those from Bradford, Charleston, Dexter, Hudson, Glenburn and Kenduskeag, put the fire out quickly but spent hours ripping down the burned wall to ensure that all the hot spots were extinguished, Bragdon said.

Nobody was injured in the fire.

“There was some damage to the [plant’s] equipment, but I would estimate by Monday they’ll be back up and running again,†the fire chief said.

The pellet manufacturing facility, which opened about five years ago, has a history of fires, but with recent additions of a pump house and other on-site safety improvements, “we haven’t been down there in the last year,†Bragdon said.

Damage to a wood pellet plant in Corinth was much less than originally estimated, after a fire there Monday night.

Initial reports were that the fire destroyed some of the pellet making machines, at a cost of hundreds of thousand of dollars.

But the C-E-O of Corinth Wood Pellets, George Soffron says only one piece of equipment was slightly damaged and it was fixed for about 15-hundred dollars.

The plant was closed for scheduled maintenance when the fire started.

Crews were able to keep it contained to one area of the facility.

Soffron says the fire didn't affect operations, either, and the facility was back open yesterday, as planned.

Good to hear there were no injuries and the damage was nothing major. Pellet mills and fires seem to be a common thing.
