Nice stove, follow instructions you sent. Pellet stoves as you know produce very fine ash for their green and efficient burn. The cleaner the stove the more efficient it will be.

Yes, but in my stove the ambient room air is blown thru the heat exchanger tubes back into the room. No need for any cleaning springs except for a rod connected to a ring around the tubes where the firey ash hits?

Does vertical heat exchanges have something to do with it?

The KWB Multifire is built around a vertical design, with vertical heat exchanges which also have cleaning springs to remove ash build up and reduce work.

I know other pellet or wood type boilers such as the Froling P4 cycle the cleaning springs w/ a motor during operation to help keep the tubes some what clean between brushings. Though I don't see one on this unit. However I don't like the fact this unit shuts itself down every 4 hour of operation to perform a self cleaning. Kinda like a Quad AE. Maybe you can shut this feature off on this unit.

Hello

I found the general operation in this Pellet Burner Pellmatic PE64 from the German Government

So what does this really hot air containing flue gasses in the heat exchanger do?

It seems to me that the springs are there to get the larger crud out, and the brush gets the finer stuff. On my stove, the flue gasses go around the tubes, and the room air goes through the tubes. The is a cleaner rod that moves a scraper along the outside of the tubes to knock the fly ash off the tubes. Sort of like the difference between a wet-tube boiler and a dry-tube boiler.

The springs:

1: increase the thermal mass of the heat exchanger (better heat extraction).
2: breaks up the flue gas flow which allows for better (longer dwell time) removal of the heat from the stove (you can also do this on the room air side as well).
3: also allow for easier cleaning of the device (remember a clean stove is a happy and safe stove).

ETA: Look up turbulators.

OMG, after all my experimenting, tell me that manufacturers are actually doing the same thing!!!! I knew I should have patented it! :ahhh: I wonder when my first royalty check will show up.............

I guess they are calling them 'cleaning' springs to avoid me suing them.

And putting them in the poisoned side of the exchanger. You put yours in the clean side.
