Went to the fair today, checkin' out some stuff. I remember as a kid, a lot of the farmers around, including my grandfather, still got their wood out with these.

Back when I started cutting up stove length, I'da given anything for one of these to hook my bucksaw up to.

Of course, even back in the boonies, they've changed over to these

Nice pictures. That last one caught my eye. Nice boots you have there Hoss. :)

That is a nice looking team in that first picture. I wonder what he has them shod with? My grandpa had a working team on his farm. We used to love 'helping' when he used the horses. They were well adapted to the tasks. He cultivated the corn, pulled in the wood, put the hay in the barn, etc with those horses. They all three were old, but loved to work together.

He's got 'em shod with horseshoes. These are working horses, but pampered pets at the same time. They get worked regularly to keep them in shape for "Fair Season". Here in Maine, there is a State Fair every week or two in a different location around the state. Most of them feature horse pulling competitions , oxen pulling, tractor pulling, all kinds of the old "Agricultural Skills", like cooking, canning, punkin' growin', etc.Yeah, they have the midway with rides, games, the best fried grub in the world. But animal exhibition, competition, and judging (sheep, goats, horses, cattle, pigs, etc.) still are the big draws, right after "Gawd, Homer, I ain't seen you since the fair last year". The one this week that the pictures are from is the Skowhegan State Fair, the longest consecutively running,(year after year) State Fair in the U. S.

Hoss great pictures, those horses would come in handy on our property.

Nice pics. Brought back memories. Two words: Mule farts. They are educational. They were instrumental in me joining the Army and then going to college.

Tractors are wonderful.

A few Kinneys and Porters over my way as well . . . Wes Kinney in Knox and Charlie and Jim Porter in Unity (although they're from away originally.)

I wish I had a skidder like that. I'd use it all the time. I'd plow the 4 or 5 inches of snow we get in the winter, pull my 4x8 trailer around with it, maybe spread a little gravel. Just because I could.
