Good day everybody,
Been hanging around in the background for a few weeks observing the goings on, and I'm proud to say I have today bought my fireplace insert. Feel good about it too, a Pacific Energy model. It's not one of the models that I've seen talked about too much around here, but I'm hoping for good things. I'll keep you posted with the progress.....Thanks to Jatoxice for the reccomendation!

Welcome to the forums :)

Welcome James. There are several PE owners on the forums. It's a fine insert. What size did you get?

Regardless of the stove, they all like dry fuel. Do you have your wood already cut, split and stacked?

Welcome to the forum, get involved, ask questions, nothing is a dumb question, there is a great group of peeps here.

In terms of size, the opening is 36" width by 26", hopefully that's what you were looking for? As for wood, I had to
buy this year cause I pulled the trigger too late.... gotta hunt and gather for next year!!!!

Welcome to the Forums!

As per everyone's advice, start cutting and stacking wood now for the next few years. It's always a PITA to get going. But once you have at least 2 if nto 3 years worth of wood (for proper drying times), it will be a cakewalk.

So did you go for the big boy, the Summit?

Welcome, James ! Always good to have another Long Islander here! Like others have said....fuel is the key! You said you bought wood - did you get it already? Remember- just because the guy SAID it was 'seasoned' , doesnt mean it really is. You should buy right now for next year - this way you know that you'll be ok. What town are you in?

Not sure what model it is, might have been important... I did get from a fella that was recommended, a few guys from Levittown use him. I'm hoping to not have to buy wood next year. Don't have a ton of room but I think I have enough to season some.

Wow you work fast! ;-) Welcome from a fellow newb. From the feedback here seems the PE's are nice heaters.

Welcome to the forums you should enjoy that PE this winter.

Welcome to the forum! So far with the test burns I've done I find this stove easy to learn and you probably will too.. Unless I missed it which model insert did you buy? Of course we want to see pics or it never happened :)

I'm not sure of the model, just a bit worried i'll be overconfident about my fire starting skills.... i've been reading about all the air flow issues and damper problems, so hoping everything will go according to plan. I'll throw up pics when they've installed the unit.

You'll get the hang of it and will find that dry wood is your friend. In the meantime, visit some cabinetry and flooring shops and ask if they have any cut off scraps. (If flooring, you want plain wood, not finished.) And for real easy starts watch for when Thomas puts up some free samples of SuperCedars. They make firestarting child's play.

Here's a video showing a method of starting a fire in a PE stove called top-down lighting. It works well for warming up the flue as it starts the fire. Watch the "Efficient Wood Stove Operation" video for some good fire lighting and burning tips:

Welcome James,
I just want to stress good fuel again. Unseasoned wood will make you want to use that nice new stove for target practice!
Good luck

Yes! Welcome to the forums! You have come to an awesome place to ask any question and to get many answers. Good luck with your new insert and remember to use seasoned wood to get the most efficiency...

Welcome to the madness . . . or maybe we're the sane ones and the rest of the folks heating with oil and natural gas are nuts . . . I always forget who is who. :) :)
