Cut to any size (and haul away) your own maple firewood and fill a:
• Short-bed Pickup Truck (6' x 4.5' x 1.5') for $50
• Standard Full Size Pickup Truck bed (8' x 5.33' x 1.5') for $75

Weather depending, available starting the morning of August 29. First come, first served.

IMPORTANT: By accepting this offer, you agree that I (the seller) will NOT be liable for any injuries that may result while you (the purchaser) and/or your assistants are on my property of your own choice.

If you don't like this offer or have a problem with it, don't waste my time by being rude to me. . . just move-on.

If you click on the ad, you'll see a pic of a storm damaged tree - that he wants YOU to pay HIM to clean-up and haul away for him. What is wrong with people?

I don't blame him for trying, not much different than paying someone to cut wood off a wood lot. At least it's down on the ground and he didn't mention needing to be insured.

He may just be trying to weed out the idiots, if someone contacts him maybe he'll let them have the wood for free. Probably not but I like to give the benefit of the doubt. Kind of like if you have a dog you have to get rid of you don't offer it for free since you don't know what someone is going to do with the dog, if someone comes by and they seem legit you give them the dog for free. :)

If the guy had any familiarity with the whole concept of firewood the way you do...or if he saw the value of it laying there on the ground because he was a wood burner himself, or he had friends who were burners, this ad would likely never have appeared. Just because he doesn't know as much about the whole process as you seem to think you know doesn't make the guy an idiot. He knows enough to realize it might be worth something to somebody, so why not give it a shot? Cut the dude some slack. Rick

I agree, it doesn't hurt to try! Worst that happens is no one bites on it, the ad is free to post.

OK, who from hearth.com placed this ad?

Hi, I am looking to buy 3 or 4 FULL cords of seasoned firewood. Let me explained what seasoned means......If its just been split, ITS NOT SEASONED! I dont care if its been sitting in log form for 3 years.

I have a moisture meter, and I check. Sticking the meter on the end of a piece is not how it works. Re-splitting a supposed seasoned piece, and checking the CENTER is the way you check.

I am also open to the getting green, so I can season it myself (and know its done right, and dry)

My stove will not put out any heat if its not seasoned properly....wasting me time, and money.

Please email delivered price, and whether its for truly seasoned (how long ago was it split?), or green. Full cords only...not this pickup truck bed full crap.

I have been trying to find someone whom I can trust deliver me wood since I have been living in this area. I usually go threw 5-6 cords a year, and would like to finnaly find someone I can get my wood from year after year.

Thanks!

Jay

I wouldnt ask a chimney sweep to pay ME to clean my chimney - just like I wouldnt ask a mechanic to pay ME to repair my car. As a former groundman for a tree co. , I find it particularly insulting that someone would ask ME to pay HIM for performing tree work. Maybe I'm just crazy.

Anyone want to buy some of my dogs poop? Im selling it....cheap....$100 for 10 lbs.

Apples and oranges. There's no incentive whatever for a sweep or a mechanic to pay you. The very notion is quite obviously absurd. There is, however, intrinsic value in the wood that's on the ground to be harvested and removed...and the owner's at least smart enough to realize that fact. Beyond that, there can be no doubt whatever that you know infinitely more than he does about the rest of the story of the likely ultimate disposition of the wood and what all is involved in making that happen. Above and beyond all that, though, I gotta suggest that if you actually find yourself insulted by ads on Craigslist you might want to simply stop reading them. Rick

I don't find it insulting but it is pretty entertaining. An island full of down trees and he thinks that someone is going to pay $75 for a 1/3 of a cord that you have to cut up yourself. Pretty amusing.

Not to get on the soapbox here- but - when I passed along that ridiculous CL ad, I truly didnt think I would wind up defending MYSELF for believing that it is absurd to ask people to perform a service for you AND have them PAY YOU for the privlige. It is in poor taste - at the very least. And it is representative of a root problem that exists in todays world.

Unfortunately, @ times you walk a invisible line here. If you step off that line, you will be efficently and speedily corrected by a SMALL Segment of the population. I guess you are free to post whatever you care to as long as it meets their criteria.

Okay folks, he's changed the ad as a result of these comments. You can have the wood for free, but he's charging $50 for having felled it for you. That's what my arborist did...he charged me $150 each to fell four trees, but said I could keep the wood and the branches.

You are correct, Rottiman. Its OK - Although I never go 'lookin' for a fight", I have never been one to shy away from stating my feelings.

Our CL is nothing but free wood, oak and pecan. Im thinking these are the people that the city wont touch, and maybe it will be around for a few weeks so I can get the city cut stuff before I ever have to fire up my saw.

Better get there early!

its worth a try IMO

here is another twist to CL. I believe its on topic.

So you want someone to basically deliver free firewood to your house? How pathetic. At least you could offer to pay for it and pick it up your damn self. You're not doing anyone a favor by having them deliver something to you for free that they could sell.

Sure is, this one here works for a bunch of members on this group. If a tree service doesn't have the time or want to process wood to sell for firewood they have to pay to dump it. It's easier to dump in someones driveway if you're working in their area rather than hauling it all the way to the dump.

It's not the same, he's not asking for a professional who does this for a living or who is insured with any type of overhead. He's looking for someone who is looking for firewood. People pay for firewood all the time, this isn't much different.

I would personally never bite on this but there could be someone out there interested in doing so.

Is is already bagged, or do I have to do that myself. HA HA HA. This made me laugh.

I agree with you wood-fan-atic. I saw a cl post the other day of someone looking for a grapple load of seasoned wood. Boy - people just don't get it.

Maybe I should post a CL ad saying I have kindling (aka twigs) all over my yard that I'm selling for $X per grocery bag. You have to pick them up.

CL is more entertaining that useful for me in finding free or cheap firewood.

Agree!!

A tandem axle trailer and good reliable saws are not free (or cheap). I doubt the land owner has the tools or expertise to safely cut and dump that tree (even if felled).

I already am paying for the wood by NOT sending them a bill. My tools and labor are not cheap and I’ll be damned if I’m going to fork out thousands of dollars in equipment and STILL have to pay for wood......no way in hell.

When you make a list of what it really costs (and time involved) scrounging wood, with good equipment, it is very personal.

I had a professional tree company cutting down a tree a few houses down. I don't have a truck to haul wood. I approached them about dumping it in my back yard and they thought I was crazy. My thought was they have to load it up and haul it off to where ever and a loaded truck burns more gas than an empty one. Also, most tree cutters don't sell much firewood if any. They make too much cutting it to fool with splitting and selling it. It all goes to our dump.

Although I would not even consider paying someone to clan up the mess in their yard such as in the original Craigslist is it really that much different from this one: http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/mat/2573812277.html

Firewood Logs - $50 (Port Ewen)

I cleared some land for my house and have log length firewood. They are aged and mostly red oak and some cherry and locust. $50 for a 6 foot pickup and $75 for an 8 foot and we can workout a price for a trailer or anything else. I can load with my Kubota.

I've seen this ad before. The person has been trying to get rid of these logs for at least 6 months. Probably not a bad deal, and I've even considered it. Perhaps if it was $25 a load. I just hate to pay for wood when, if I apply myself, I can get all I want for free. Plus, I can get log length mixed hardwoods dropped in my driveway for about $85 / cord. How many 6 ft. bed truckloads would equal one cord?

I have seen ads around here you cut and pay $20.00 a pickup load, I haven't done it but does't seem too bad, but that price is too high.

Theres a couple guys around here with mountains of firewood cut and split for $50 a pickup load, as much as you want to put in your truck. I guess it depends on where you live.
