Hello Everyone,
I am currently rebuilding an '87 CC1000. First time rebuild! All internals seem in good order. I have ordered a Kaowool blanket to replace older one, and need to pickup a few firebricks. I also have an outer piece of glass to replace and all gaskets. When I took the stove apart, there are 4 small screws that hold the steel baffle assembly and insulation blanket to the top part of the secondary combustion chamber. Seemed real simple so I was excited. The steel baffle has sides on it that hold the firebricks to the side of the firebox, it does not rest on top of the bricks. When I unscrewed the baffle, I could not get the baffle out of the firebox until I removed the firebricks, there just was not enough clearance inside. Luckily the bricks were cracked, so I just cracked them some more and was able to remove. But I would have been lost if I was not able to remove the bricks before. When I removed the baffle, I noticed it is slightly warped which may be why the clearances seem so close. Is it ok to bend the side tabs back towards the firebox a little so I can fit the baffle back up into place? Is this a common issue?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I must be the only one out there with this old stove. I am forced to re-use the baffle since no parts available for it. It is slightly warped but was working just fine last year. Does anyone know if it is ok to hold the kaowool on with small amount of masking tape or something similar so it doesn't move during instalation?
Thanks.

I rebuilt the inside of our old woodfurnace a couple of years before retiring it. The baffle was warped pretty bad. I took it into the local welding shop where they placed it in a press and welded some reinforcement steel in an x. It allowed the same baffle to be used, and stopped it from warping in the future. As far as the tape and kaowool is concerned, that tape will burn off right away. I don't think it would be a concern to use a few small pieces to hold it in place to install.
