has anyone burned maine wood pellets from home depot, loooking to stock up for the season, never burned them before.?

The make a good pellet now. Search this site and you will see just a few posts on them.
They WERE making a really bad pellet. So bad people called it "dirt in a bag"

They are much much better now. A great value for the money. If you can get them for under $200. Go for it!

thanks, yea they r going for $197 ton, thought i would get some

Sorry, I had such a bad experience with them clogging up my auger a few years back they will never go in my stove again. Even free ones.

I burned the dirt in a bag and can say what they are producing now is much, much, much better. Super Premium quality at a Premium price. But don't take my word on it! Try a few bags just to see for yourself! They will definetly get you thru the shoulder season(and more) and might save you a bit of cash too!

There are a few threads on the Mainewoods or MWP pellets.

which home depot has them?
Member $save swears the MWP are the best pellets for his Napoleon, so I really want to buy a few bags to try them.

BT has them so you can try them first. They also have the new softwoods too. I haven't been to the Torrington HD in a while, I have to stop in and see what they have. But last I knew it was SC. Barkhamsted TSC had them last season, But this season its Greene Supremes and Instant Heat.

Yup 2008 was a bad year for them BUT they have revamped their process and put out a very good product.
I would compare them with NEWP out of Jaffrey NH. We burned NEWP our 2nd year.
Currently heading into our 4th season. (Our 2nd with the new MWP)
We are able to burn almost a ton before having to empty the ash pan. (4-5 times last Winter)
If you can try some first do it. But you should be fine with them.
We paid $209 this year. Last year $199. $197 is a good price.

I also burned 3 ton of a 2008 run followed by 3 ton of an early 2009 run. There was a large difference for the better between them. I then switched to LGs sitting out the next process change, when j-takeman tested a batch in the spring of 2010 I decided to give them another try so I ordered 5 ton in December 2010. I burned 3 tons of them along with 2 tons of Cubex and 38 bags of LGs. I then ordered 11 tons of MWP this past spring. I plan on getting a few bags of their new softwood pellets as a trial.

Let me know about the new super premium pellets as I would like to try them too! I hear they are in the 8800 btu range and even less ash. Could be well worth the money. Who carries them in southern Maine?

I don't know who has them at the moment. I'm generally very patient and I'm certain I'll come across some. I do believe that Stave Barker (http://site.sibwoodpellets.com/ ) has some , but I'll hunt down something a little closer and try a few before going for a large amount (primarily to allow the boss to have a place to put her car this winter).

HD in Orange, Ct, also seen them at HD in east haven

Saw maine wood pellets at Tractor Supply yesterday, there selling them at $3.74 a bag, states they were 4.74 a bag before. I'm going to buy a few bags today to try, are these still allot better this year then they were?

Our second year with their new ones.
Good heat, low ash and no clunkers.
We burned 4 tons of their '08-'09 batch. So I know what to look for.
They are very very much improved!
$187/ton is a good deal. We paid around $209 delivered last April.

To my surprise, I have seen a HUGE amount of MWP now for sale at WalMart in Augusta. I think the price was $194, but please, don't hold me to it. They are stacked right out front between the two entrances. All pellets seem intact. My wife overheard someone trying to buy some who was sent to the customer help desk because they are not taxed. While I do rally like these pellets, I think that trying others has merit. I burned Energex for three seasons thinking they were about all I could get for the money. Was I ever wrong. There are better pellets and cheaper too. For me it is all about good heat, no clinkers and ash build up in the burn pot, and affordable. The added service of getting them delivered right into the garage has a lot of merit.

at Walmart?? Which bags did you see, the blends or softies?

Geek, I've seen the blends at Walmarts in NH. 200/ton. Trying some out myself for the shoulders

I tried 4 bags of MWP from walmart, burned good but very soft pellet, lots of fines. Of all the pellets I have tried, by far the softest.
I don't think I will buy anymore. I screen all my pellets, break the long ones, so I have a personal relationship with my pellets, they
are just too mushy for me. The odor has been the strongest so far.

I had a few like that last year, seems like they picked up some moisture somewhere along the line. Haven't seen it with any of this year's.

I thought the same thing, tested for moisture and to my surprise they passed.
