I can buy a new Oslo for 2336$ cash flat black 300$ cash back credit or used blue/black for 1400$ 3yrs old.... My Ecore is is great shape n hope to get at least 700$ for it with top n bottom heat sheilds and both warming shelves.... any advice? Just thinking is it worth the money i will save or not...

I'm an Oslo owner since 2008, this will be my 4th winter with it. I would lean towards the used Oslo before going new, IMHO. If your handy and have some basics in stove 'know how' you will know if the used Oslo is worth the money used. I'm not sure if the warranty is transferable or not but you would have 2 years left if it does. Even when I bought mine new, it was a model year leftover on the floor and I haggled them down to get it.

Seems like a real good price for a three year-old stove. Let's face it, if only three years of usage seriously devalued the worth of a stove, it wasn't a very good investment to begin with.

Go used if the stove checks out.

In addition to a general condition check, closely inspect the three year old stove's grate area, especially at the corners where the interior base and grate meet. If all looks in good condition, I would get the used stove without hesitation.

+1

I think these Jotul stoves are lifetime stoves if burned correctly and not abused. If the stove looks good, I'd grab the used one.

Good luck,
Bill

Not sure if the math works here, i was able to pick up a five year old oslo, in flat black, for 650. Had to drive a bit for it but very worth it. Turns out the last two years it wasnt even burned in. I think they were weekend burners. Bonus for me was it already had the short legs i needed. Some new gaskets and stove paint, burns and looks new.

And i have only heard good thing about the blue/black. Ill vote for the used, provided its in good shape

You got a hell of a deal, though. That price can't be expected.

+1 that was a fantastic deal on a 5 yr. old Jotul Oslo!

I kinda of knew the answer but was in some need some reassurance. The stove was used only when the owner was home and not 24/7 and there's a slit water stain from the water pot.... hoping to pick it up this weekend....

Good to hear. Post some pics when you can.

Browning, yes i sure did, i was trying to say good deals on used stoves are out there. Taking a page or two from your book of course. Im certain i wouldnt know all the nitty gritty details on what to look for with out this site.

You cannot go wrong with either deal . . . but I would be tempted to go with the blue black used Oslo as long as it wasn't abused . . . from the sounds of it you should pick it up for a good deal.

You might know this already but check to see if it truly is only a few years old. You can do this by looking at the ash pan door handle and whether or not it has the steel burn plates vs. the vermiculite one. Jotul changed designs slightly about 7-8 years ago. FWIW, I picked up a gently used Oslo for $1,100. It was an "older" model but still in great shape. I have since replaced all of the gaskets, removed the steel burn plates and replaced it with the vermiculite one. If it were me, I would offer $1,200 and see where that gets you.

Fwiw, last year I picked up a three year old like new jotul f600 for 1200. It included heat shields and floor protector. And also a screen door.
