Hello

I´m woundering about the burning time´s on this wood stoves with catalytic burn system

I live in Sweden in north of Europe and here the most normal woodstove are one without the catalytic system
and if we are looking for long heat for an example over night we go for the weight that heats up during fire
and cools down during the night but to put in a 1000-1500 kg is not so economically

So there fore I´m are looking for a free standing wood stove with long burn hours

Woodstock Fireview cat
Blaze King Princess cat
Vermont Casting Encore cat

Napoleon no cat

Are they what they say? how are the life time on the parts?

Best regards from Sweden

Based on testimonials from the members here, the Blaze King and the Woodstock burn times seem pretty accurate. The Vermont Casting is over stated by 2-4 hours. From what I have heard, the new Encore will get an 8+ hour burn. But no where near 12 hours.

Most stoves over state their burn times by about 2 hours.

We are very happy to welcome a Swede to the forum Robert.

Always bear in mind too that the burn times will depend greatly upon the fuel you put in. For example you'll get a lot longer burn time with oak than with cottonwood; a big difference indeed.

With the Fireview, we have found it to be pretty darned accurate with the wood we burn. Some have reported much longer times than we get but they also burn different wood. As for life time on the parts, that is really difficult to predict, especially with the new steel cats as they should last a lot longer than the old ceramic cats. We plan on putting one in our stove this fall. On other parts, there is not a whole lot to go wrong except for the normal replacing of gaskets and Woodstock sells a great kit to go along with the stove that has everything you will need. There has been one part that some folks have had a problem with but I believe Woodstock has replaced all the bad ones and are now using stainless steel so that should no longer be a problem. Ours has been basically trouble free.

Good luck to you.

By the way, out of curiosity, we are having a major cool down on this side of the pond with widespread frost and was wondering what the weather is like on your side of the pond.

Eh, I don't know about 'widespread'.

Perhaps not in your area but you'll get yours soon enough.

Welcome aboard. I often wondered why there aren't any cat stoves over in Europe. I burn mostly Oak and with a full load in the Fireview I could easily go 12 hours between loads with enough of a coal bed to take right off again. I've also had coals over 20 hours when you turn it way down low. Softer woods like Silver Maple and Elm can go 10 hours on a full load. Pine will give you 8 hours.

My Keystones have gone 12 hours as well but it's a little more difficult since it has a little smaller fire box and you have to pack it just right. You can get an easy 8-10 hour burn with good hardwood.

These long burns work great for the shoulder seasons, you don't get a ton of heat at the end of these long burns and when it turns colder you need to burn these stoves a little hotter like a non cat which takes a few hours off that burn time. If you have good insulation and the stove is sized correctly for your home you may be able to stretch those burn times and burn low and slow all Winter.

Must be a bundle for shipping a stove over there?

I've made ti on brochures? :p

We bought the Blaze King King solely because of burn time as my wife and I both work. We burn 24/7 continuously from late September to early May. 24 hour loads of uglies/chunks/lessers to start and end the season, 12 hour loads of the good stuff in the coldest part of the winter, 24 hour burns of mid range stuff in between. After two stoves that did not live up to the glossy brochure claims, the BK more than lives up to its brochure claims and we are very happy with it. Good luck and welcome.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your answers

I have most hardwood, in Sweden the name are björk but the english name I think are birch? I dont know...

First I was into Vermont Encore cast iron stove with catalytic burn system but thae when checking around there
seems to be a little problems with this stoves regarding warranty and so on.. we also have an dealer on this stove here in
Sweden and the wants to have 25000:- SEK and in US that will be about 3676 in Sweden. I dont know the price in US.

And I also find a dealer for the Fireview but I dont know the price yet I will see if I could go and have a look on this stove this weekend

But I heard I guy here in Sweden telling about hte BK and I had to find out moore.... I will see if I could find a dealer in Sweden and se what they ask for this stoves.

Otherwise my wife´s cousin lives in Miami so perhaps she could buy me one and send it over.... I havent checked what the shipping cost will be but I dont think it will be to expensive.

To day I had 12 degrees celsius in my car when I went home from work and it have been rainig for almost a month more or less every day. I have a water meter and this last month we got about 85mm of rain....

So today it is standing between a BK and a Fireview. BK for the burning time and the Fireview for the looks and the burn time....

Thanks for you god support and a super nice forum

Robert

Rob, I'm a woodstove rookie so keep that in mind. In all of my burns so far, four logs have lasted four hours plus more in my Fireview. I am still learning how to get the most burn for my wood so I can only think it is going to get better.

The Blaze King is a larger stove than the Fireview fire box wise 2.8 cu ft to 2.0 cu ft, so you should take that into consideration as well. Where is the Woodstock dealer over there? They only sell factory direct over here but they have oustanding customer service.

Rob, I may know of a place where you could buy a used Fireview that is in great condition. Of course, the shipping would have to be worked out. If you are interested, we could hook you up with the owner of this stove and it will probably become available about the end of next month.

Hello Guy´s,

The dealer are in the south of Sweden about 125km from my home and we were at his store yesterday and my wife liked the look on the fireview but he wants to have 29900:- Sek in US it is close to 4462 but the it are here in Sweden. I saw that they what to have 1895 now on the webpage but I dont know what the freight cost and custom cost and the tax will be.... I´m looking in to that.... Any suggestions?

So I sent an email to Woodstock and see what they say about delaers or no dealers..... but in the web page they have this new one on its way the Hybrid... were you have moore options... that one I liked.. :)

I also sent an email to BlazeKing company and see if it are possible to buy one from them... we will see....

Todd. Why did you sell your Fireview? something wrong with it? or are the Keystone better? or what are the difference?

Backwoods Savage. Do you know the color, year of the cat..... Wife issues... :)

Regards Robert from Sweden

Robert, I can get that information and will send a PM to you with more details if at all possible.

It was actually more heat than he needed so he returned it for another Keystone. I envy his lack of draftiness...
