Feeling the Heat

I have a Vermont Castiings Resolute stove built in the 1980s I think and want it cleaned well. Anyone have a dealer or someone who knows the older Vermont Castings wood stoves who will clean it and do a great job? It does not seem to heat the rooms the way it should and the way it used to in another house so think the baffles in back might be clogged. Want to start burning early November or Late October.

Bump this to the top. Anyone in that area who can help?

We used to burn an early 80's VC Resolute. There are Horizontal slots (2 think) on the lower right firebox wall. They tend to plug up with ash, this is the path for secondary combustion. I used to reach up with my fingers and pry out the ash - sometimes it gets heavy. There are also primary air holes in the lower rear firebox wall, I'm sure you know the ash level at the bottom of the stove has to be below these holes.
I suppose its possible for the primary inlet chamber (area behind these holes) to fill with ash, but I never had that problem. A stove that old probably has leaks and needs to be rebuilt. I personally would put the money into a newer EPA stove.

I have done some business with this VC Dealer for simple stuff, it may be worth a call;HEARTH WORKS FIREPLACE CENTER, INC. RTE 28 250 MAIN STREET NORTH READING, MA 01864 978-664-0100

YEs defintely I know about the holes in back of the fireback of the interior of the wood stove, also hole left side rear which supplies air to the secondary. I am thinking that there is wood ash in the secondary burn area. I am not getting the heat out of this old girl that I should, love it so do not want to get rid of it, no cracks etc in Great condition. my brother has an older Jotul that he is selling me but putting it in storage so if this one craps out will use it. LOVE wood heat. Do not want to spend the $$$ for new stove.
I will call that dealer, someone else gave me a name of a place in Norwood MA so will check with both, THANKS FOR THE ADVICE

+1 I might give that dealer a call for my next sweep too. The sweep I used to use lost my business on the last trip.

I wonder if they will travel to the south shore??

I have a chimney sweep but will ask how much they charge and if they come this far, really it is west of boston and a little south so Southwest of Boston.
