Feeling the Heat

My choices this year are not that good, going to go with the Big Box store for the price. The following are what my choices are, last year I was able to get Potomac and Lignetics. looking at American Wood Fiber unless I can get input on how the others are.

Tractor Supply: Nation's Choice $199

Lowes: North American $197

Home Depot: American Wood Fiber $197

Agway: Hardwood Heat $269 not an option with that price

You might be able to find some Cheat Rivers at Lowes. I am not that far from you and found that my local Lowes has a pretty large supply of North Americans, with a couple pallets of Cheat Rivers mixed in. Whether or not the Cheat Rivers are better than the pellets you have listed is a good question....

going to stop by the Lowes on the way home from work, hard to get what they have over the phone and they are across the street from me. Would prefer Lowes because of the location but don't know about the pellets.

I have had three telephone conversations with one place in an attempt to learn what kind of pellets they have. During the first call, I was told they are "Ashwood" pellets - they had no manufacturer name. I was put on hold twice in order to obtain that information. During the second call, I was told they are Lignetics - so I asked if they are the blue label or the white label. They said they would check and call me back. They called back to say the bag is white.

I think you are making the right call on going there. Lowe's seems to use the same skew on all of their pellets. So, you can't tell the difference by just the skew written in marker on the packaging. I found it difficult to figure out if there was a different bag under the packaging - especially since only one pallet was at floor level.

Good luck!

We purchased an entire truckload of AMW pellets. Early indications are that they still have not resolved their long pellet length issue. For some stoves, this can me a major problem with either bridging of the pellets in the hopper above the auger or jamming of the auger.

The Nations Choice were pretty well junk for me. I'd advise shying away from them. I am going to try to mix the rest of what I have with something better to get me through. Lots of ash in them.

Same here. Some say they are rebadged infernos

Lowes now has Greenway Super Premium Pellets, thinking of getting these. Burned them before just were premium then and had nothing but jamming issues but these seem to be a lot smaller in size. And from what I have read people said they did burn hot.

I'm in the Philly suburbs.
Which Lowes has the Lignetics? My local HomeDepot and Lowes have AWF and Presto lOgs, respectively.
I'm looking for a better shoulder pellet than those.

thanks

I've burned American Wood Fiber that past few years with no issues. Overall they are one of my favorite. Got them this year for under $200/ton so in my book you can't beat it.

Depending on where the Presto logs were bagged, They could be the same as the green labeled lig's. Try a couple of bags and see how they do. Unfortunately some are also bagged at the same plant as the blue labeled ligs which have had some complaints with excess ash. But the heat was still good.

I just snagged 15 bags of american wood fiber that HD was selling. I get the discount so they come out to $3.55 a bag. I just fired one up to see if I'll get anymore. Other options are Hammers for $5 a bag.
