What a pain in the "labanza" I can never get the cover lined up correctly. My cover seems to require being perfectly placed else it will not re-seat.

Yesterday I had enough after trying what seemed to me the upteenth time it finally slid up easily so rather than just spin it a little and lock it until next time I took a little borowed nail polish and wiped it on the seam between the "T" and removable cover.

Hopefully next time to perfectly align the cover all I hope to do is align the marks.

Smalltown did you use tape or leave as is, did it leak at the seam I use a little anti seize on the cap. Messy but helps

I do the same thing with stove pipe so I can align those damn screw holes after cleaning the pipe.

Mine is a pain too. To make matters worse, I need to be on a ladder to get to it. I put two marker lines on the "T" and one mark on the removable cover so I know where to line up the cover to re-install and when it is locked after turning. Also, I find that an oil filter wrench helps to turn it to lock/unlock.

AZ Pellet Guy I have never used tape on the seam. Never had any leaks.
All I do is make sure the cover is clean when I reinstall.

I don't have the turn and lock pipe. I have the pipe that needs 2 people on each side to push the sections together, then a fifth person to put the machine screws back in.........
