hearthstone vs woodstock, which is better pros/cons?

Both are good stoves. Right now Woodstock is having a hell of a sale and a Fireview can be had for an insanely low price.

Heritage burn times: 6+ hours

Mansfield: 8-ish hours

Fireview: 8+ hours (upwards of 12 hours)

In comparison to heat output, it seems that the Fireview is in between the Heritage and Mansfield.

bwbski, by now you are probably aware of the Woodstock Open House on October 7-8. I hope you are able to attend. That will give you a really close-up view of their different stoves and you'll be able to ask questions not only from customer service reps but also from guys who actually build the stoves. As an added benefit, there will be several folks there from this forum and many of us would love to meet you there and answer even more of your questions.

Not sure when the sale ends. On the new stove there is a limit on both time and quantity. If they sell 250 stoves, that is the end of that sale, but that is only on the new Progress stove. The sale on the Fireview will probably last longer than on the Progress but I don't think they have stated when that will end.

The Fireview is listed as a 60 day sale as well.

Thank you. I have to admit that I had not paid much attention to that on the Fireview.

I'm pretty sure Dennis joined a cult and this is his way of getting others to join. It's kind of like the Adam Sandler skit about joining a cult, but with stoves.

 But this year the hearth.com folks also get a nice hat, compliments of our fine webmaster Craig. Pack up the car and head to Woodstock Browning.

That's how it starts, offering you free stuff. Next thing you know you are being fed a low protein diet and we're all wearing matching robes.

[Sandler:] "Look, they're gonna give you clothes, a free haircut, you're gonna get food --"
[Allen:] "-- it's not gonna be one of those weird haircuts, is it?"
[Sandler:] "It's gonna be a haircut, all right? You said you need a haircut, they're gonna freakin' cut your hair. You're going in, saving twelve bucks, just freakin' do it!"

Sure hope you cat get there. We're driving over 1,000 miles to attend and we hope we can get a chance to meet. Looks like we'll also have a good group from hearth.com there along with the Woodstock folks and lots and lots of customers for them. We were there last year and really enjoyed it so we're hoping for an even better time this year.

All I can say is that you are a funny man BRowning Bar

bwbski,
Sounds like you are in the process of buying the home. If that is the case, maybe you can get in touch with the seller and find out a bit more information. Such as, what type of a stove was in there (make, model, age). Find out if the liner was put in, what stove shop they used - they would be familiar with the set up. Owner may still have the paperwork for the liner if it was installed. Whatever else you can think of to ask them. If you are using a real estate agent, you may have to go through them, but worth a shot

Good luck.

Hearthstone Heritage around here is about 3k. I think the smaller Woodstocks may do just fine for you as well as the Fireview. This sale they are having is pretty hard to pass up if your looking for a soapstone stove, I'd be all over it if I didn't already have two.

Doh! Anyhow, yeah, Heritage and FireView both list around $3k and have very similar specs, except that the FV has a catalytic combustor that will let you streeeetch out the burn time, if desired. Woodstock usually has their stoves "on sale" for ~ $5-600 off. I figure it's to incentivize folks to deal with the mail-order quirks. The current extra $400 off does indeed make it silly cheap for a stove of this quality. Some other 2-cu-ft top-quality stoves would be the Jotul Oslo($2300 *I think*) and the PE Super, which starts @ $1,500 for a plain steel box and goes north of $2k if optioned out with pretty iron castings as the T5. None of these will give you the burn time that the FV will, and the level of customer service will depend on the local dealer, so it's luck of the draw. I would drive on out to Woodstock with a hauling vehicle. You can choose the exact stove you want from inventory. If you buy, you'll save ~ $150 on shipping, and they'll discount it another $100 for your "trouble." That's how they roll.

VC is somewhere in the $2.5-3k range, I think. Dunno if I'd put them on the top shelf for quality with the other brands I listed. The current VC's are somewhat untested, introduced last year, and the brand was acquired just a few years ago by Monessen. Dunno how good their customer service is. Again, it would depend on the dealer, at best.

Wow, So the woodstock is on sale for 1895 right now. If I pick it up I save another 150 for shipping, and another 100 for my "trouble". This puts the stove at 1645. Is this correct? Can anyone confirm this?

This sounds like hands down the best deal. And it also sounds like one of the best stoves out there.

Is this all correct. Sounds a little too good to be true!

You got it all right except for the shipping. It's not a discount., you just wouldn't have to pay for shipping. The FV price would be $1800, with the $100 discount that they have historically given for factory pickup. I would imagine that they will give the pick-up discount along with the current sale price, but you should call them to make sure, because these prices are unusually low. Yeah, Woodstock is almost too good to be true. . .when they get nutty with the prices like this, it really starts to blur into fantasy land. p.s. The stoves look even better in person. Pics don't do them justice.

p.p.s. If you want to call them for details tomorrow, they are open Saturdays. However, I must warn you. . .they are *so* service-oriented, that you *will* want to do business with them. That's how they roll. :cheese:
