In The Woods
This is some of the beech I cut over the winter. The majority of the wood is beech with some sugar maple mixed in with the last load.

Still have some beech, sugar maple, ironwood and some rounds of basswood, the basswood was topped off an in the same area I was cutting some topped off sugar maple.

Almost time to start cutting again.

I really like the work area you have there, and the cooool tools to play with while you work. :)

Curious question; how much sun do you get there? Only reason I ask is I have my wood stacked along a tree line too and I struggle sometimes with getting enough sun.

The area in the pictures that I'm stacking in gets about 3 hours once the sun swings around. It's on the southeast side (not the greatest) but gets full wind.

I'm still clearing out some small white pine that are never going to be strong trees so it will get some morning sun from the east. I sold some wood from that area this year, the buyer had burned some when it we had that cold snap and he said it was good & dry.

It took a couple of years but I finally cleared out enough dead White Pine that gave us that working area, another months worth of work and that trail should be big enough for the old green GMC truck to back in with a load of wood direct to the piles. :zip:

Pretty much where they clump together at the bottom.

1.5 to 2 cords maybe?

Oz, I'll take 1.5 cord of Cherry. Once I get it bucked up then stacked I'll post the amount.

How about the rounds? some keep em some let them go. I think I would keep em and put them in a place where they would dry on thier own.

Oz are you talking about the rounds I've been splitting lately?

Zap did you actually build a wall on the end to hold that wood up instead of the t post? lol bout time. :p

Zap, I just burned some beech on my first burn this year. It dried really nicely in one year. Enjoy it . I understand that sugar maple is really good stuff too. I do not have any of sugar.

Very good . . . I get very excited when I see beech . . . for me personally it's some of the best BTU wood I have easy access to since I have no black locust, oak, etc. . . .

It's right up there with some of the Oak btu wise, my wife loves burning beech (the good stuff.... she calls it). When I was outside last night I took a count on how much beech we have, two years worth if we just burn straight beech. :cheese:

We usually burn three cord of cherry so we save "the good STUFF" for the cold months which should give us 4-6 years of beech if we want.

Just on the one end Eco. The t-post are still in the ground from last year except on that end close to the tree (the roots are there so the t-post would never go in).

Looks like a nice project you have there.

Splitter; another two weeks and that pile should be gone, some of the beech I should have left on the side hill, but we will burn it outside this winter.
