Yooperdave,

Not sure if this will help but have a home recipe for a sinus irrigation solution. We use this heavily when we have a sinus headache or the making of a sinus infection. There are no restrictions as to how much you use it but we don't exceed more than once every 30 mins.

Items needed:
Ear Bulb (about 1 oz)
1 Qt warm water (Don't want to scald your sinuses)
2 - 3 Tsp Kosher Salt
1 Tsp Baking Soda

Mix the Water, Salt an Baking Soda.

Fill the Bulb with the solution by sucking it up into the bulb. (Want to get the bulb pretty full.)
Leaning over a sink, tilt you head a little forward.
Stick the tip of the bulb to JUST into one nostril. (I point straight up the nostril but there are different schools as to a little forward or a little back.)
Stop breathing and deliberately squeeze the entire bulb of solution up the nostril. (You will feel it go up into the sinus cavities.)
Breath out through nose to clear solution. Repeat process in other nostril.

You know you have done it well when you have a taste of salt water. (Provided your sinuses are not too clogged - may take many applications to get the clog cleaned.)

When done blow nose as normal.

Full effect is usually felt after 5 mins.

Hope this helps.

P.S. When I make it up I use 1/2 the water initially. When I am ready to irrigate, I make a mini-batch in a separate container, like a plastic 6 oz cup, I add about 2.5 oz of solution and 2.5 oz of hot spigot water to make the desired concentration. This thereby creates the warn solution at the desired concentration.

Regards,
Erik

Hot Totty.Good for what ails ya ;-)

Almost sounds like bad seasonal allergies. I've never had fall allergies in my life before and I got hammered by them for about 2 weeks beginning around the second week of September. Take a claritin and if you have a dramatic improvement there you go, if not, then its a cold, take some Motrin Cold and tough it out.

Hot peppermint tea works shockingly wll against cold related congestion, runny nose and headache. Non drug and usually caffeine free. I keep a box at work and at home just in case I get stuck.

My doctor says:
clear mucus = allergy
yellow or green= infection

I would bet with the rest of your symptoms you have a sinus infection.

I try not to visit doctors but if you get any worse you may want to get checked. Pneumonia can develop pretty quickly.

I'll take guaifenesin for a week or so any time my sinuses are under pressure or it seems like they will be. Usually once in the Fall and once in the Spring.

If I don't they don't seem to clear out on their own, I get worse infection, pneumonia, then I'm taking antibiotics.
The guaifenesin seems to stop the progression as long as I take it soon enough.

Dunno why the pills have to be so darned big, though.

I use a sinus irrigation squeeze bottle each evening for the past 3 years. 1 liter bottle of boiled well water (cooled) 1.5 tsp salt and 1.5 tsp baking soda. After I fill the irrigation bottle I warm it in the microwave for a few seconds.

I take a Nyquil shot the liquid one with alcohol and chase it with a 12 hour pseudoephedrine.
I sleep great!
Consult your doctor first!

Very important that the water be boiled or distilled in order to kill amoeba. Passage to the brain is easiest through the nasal passages. For more on what happens to the brain:

There is a section on how to do the nasal flush after the gross parts of the article.

A 1.75 bottle of jack daniels to be consumed in less that 48 hours. It does nothing for the cold, but it will help your attitude.
