I got up yesterday and the house was 70F so I decided to start a small fire to warm the house up for my wife and daughters while they did schoolwork. Some kindling and four spits later I had the Fireview up to cat engage temps and then shortly there after to about 425F. The house warmed up nicely and I headed to the grocery store while they did their schooling.

I say to my lovely wife, "You don't need to do anything with the stove I'm going to let it die out. There's plenty of heat stored in the stones." She replied "I was thinking that you could keep it going until you left for work." I think to myself, "Oh boy, I've made a great decision in this stove. My wife is toasty warm and no electricity to do it. I hope I've got enough wood!"

I'm a very happy Woodstock owner!

p.s. Yeah, I know. I need to get my wife to speed on working the stove.

Hehheh . . . I wouldn't even consider firing up the stove if it was 70 degrees in the house . . . that to me is the perfect temp.

Thats what I was thinking. ;-)

Sounds like you need to put up and extra cord or two for next year.

My prediction is that fv will go through much more wood this year than he thought!

Stay warm!

Good deal fireview2788; it's always nice when you can keep the BOSS happy.

It was 70 in here this morning and I started a little fire in the furnace. Anything under 73-74 and the others get a bit whiny. 70 is completely unacceptable in the winter, but I thought it felt pretty good today.

It won't be an everyday occurrence, trust me. Actually today was the same thing and it didn't happen. House heated itself to 72F so all was good. I must admit too, I like to play with the new toy.

Wow. You like it toasty! I keep my house at 70 all the time. The heat from the sun in the daytime will take it to 74 and it cools to about 69 at night.

Like the others have mentioned, keep the wife happy: it makes for a much easier life!

It gets worse.

Before the Keystone, we kept the furnance on 68 - sometimes a bit higher. After the Keystone install, we found temps in the living room hitting 80 degrees sometimes.

How could it get worse for you? I now get complaints when the temp falls into the mid 70's - LOL

Good luck & you got a great stove.

Bill

house needs to get close to the 50's before i start a first fire. i love burning. wood. but i also hate the heat. i love this time of year. although its been 80 and muggy here still. cant wait for the weather to break

No way I'd even consider it with the inside temp near 70 with it only in the 60's outside, the house would be insanely hot in now time. When I can flip the furnace on for 5-10 minutes to knock the chill out or run a small electric floor heater for a bit I can't get myself to load the stove.

I've been wanting to fire up the BK for it's first fire since it was installed. This weekend is supposed to be in the 50's for our highs 40's for the lows so I figure I'll light up this weekend.

During the winter I like the house at 75-80°F

During the warmer months I'll take 65°F

Happy wife = Happy life

So true......so very very true.... :p :coolsmirk:

The bedroom window WAS open. I used to like it cold too but that was when I weighed 40lbs more and didn't have a thyroid problem. I honestly think it's more of a novelty thing right now since the stove is new but we will see.

As far as her liking it warm that's why our heating bills were so high and we ended up getting a stove, she set the electric heat @ 74F. When we got that first bill it was quickly set back and space heaters were bought. I was able to cut the bill down by $100 the next month. I can tell you this, we aren't having high heating bills again!
