On the way home from work yesterday morning my niece called and asked if I would haul some pellets to her home. I told her that I would be glad to help her, and asked where do you want me to meet you at? She said meet me at Lowe's.

So I get home switch trucks, make sure that the dually has enough fuel, and off to meet her.

I get there and she is standing by the lawn & garden area (in her army uniform), she sees me and tells a guy by her that is the truck she wants her pellets loaded on. The guy put 2 pallets on the dually, and told my niece "Remember you MUST pick up the remaining 2 tons today or the manager will void their sale".

I asked her what is he talking about? She said I was going to get two tons because you told me that I could get a 10% discount for being in the service. But when the kid rang up my order he asked do you have any other coupons you want to use today? She said well I do have one of those 10% off moving coupons, BUT I don't think I can use it along with the military discount. She said the kid said "I don't know who told you that, BUT they are wrong".

She lucked out and got 4 tons of Greenway Super Premium Pellet's, (regular sales price $197.00 a ton) for $157.60 a ton.

I told the kid on the forklift, don't worry we will be back in about 2 hours for the rest.

Found out the kid that rang her up did make a mistake :bug: , the manager said that he would honor the sale :) , BUT all of the pellet's had to be picked up by closing time or he would give her a refund.

I wonder if the kid would have given her another 5% off if she paid with a Lowe's charge card  ?

Nice to hear they honored their mistake.
Good score!

If you are a vet, and have ID, Lowes will give you 10% off on anything that you buy.
Beware, HOME DEPOT did away with their 10% discount for veterans.
Guess where I do all my shopping!!

I too found that Home Depot has done away with their coupons, and I was also told that the military discount (or any other kind of coupon for that matter), did NOT apply to wood pellets. The ONLY thing HD will do is beat a competitors price IF that price is lower than theirs. Since Lowes is also selling at $197/ton, HD won't beat it.

I even called HD corporate offices, and they were no help.

HD has now lost ALL of my business.....PERIOD!

I guess that I must have lucked out earlier in the year.
They did try to get me for the 6% Pa tax, but I told them
that was a no no, not legal, and if they wanted to charge
me the tax, I am on my way out.
They don't like to see business walk out the door.
6 ton delivered at a cost of $167.50 a ton. Satisfied.

holly crap nice deal.........too bad she didn't get 8 tons...lol.......

I think Lowes around here is selling them for $167 a pallet until October 3rd. I think as long as you order and pay by the 3rd, they'll deliver for that price when they get them in.

Menards doesnt have any discounts for military or vets. They claim their prices are already the lowest around and they will match other prices. So much for patriotism. Lowes doesn't carry pellets here for some reason. Thats what I get for living out in the stix I guess.

Good buy on the pellets. I'm retired military. My wife and I both are able to use our military ID's for 10% discount at either the Lowes or HD in Augusta Me. HD had cut it our for a few months a while back, but then it was back on. I tend to favor Lowes because they are nearer and they hire seniors. Many times they are retired plumbers, carpenters etc. Lots of good advice there!

Yea, I asked her why she didn't get more and she said I only had so much money on me (she & her hubby only use a credit card for emergencies).

Does lowes deliver?

Not sure, but I think that they do.

I always haul my own, I can get 2 tons in the back of the dually, and if needed 4 tons can go on the deck-over trailer.

They delivered a new pellet stove, 4 pallets of pellets and pipe kit for free to my brother's house, which is about 25 miles from the store.

My brother was in the military for about 8 years, 5yrs of which were spent as a Navy SEAL, with 2 1/2 tours (that we know of) under his belt... Anyway, I went to home depot with my brother about a year ago to buy cabinets, flooring and sheetrock(about $15-$20k worth) and at checkout he presented his military ID for the discount they were offering all years prior. The lady behind the desk said "sorry, we stopped giving discounts to veterans a few months ago" so my brother asked to see a manager. When a manager came over, my brother explained he was a veteran injured in action, etc.. etc... The manager went on to say "we already give discounts on veterans day, inst that enough?" After a few choice words, we left HD and went to Lowes the following day and he recieved the 10% off with no issues. Long story short, he has never walked into a HD again since then.

Maryland home depot still does. Bought two tons last week and used the discount.

I got 4 ton from Lowes last week for $161.10 a ton. Pellets are $179 and I used a 10% off movers coupon I save for pellet season. $65 for delivery is a no brainer. They are getting delivered Sat. to the outside of my garage door. All I have to do is bring them in. I'm hoping 4 ton will do it for the season. Last year I went through 5 ton. We'll see. Bring on Winter. I'm Ready. :cheese:

Last winter was also a winter for the record books here in NJ, if all the rain we've been having is some sort of indicator as to how much snow we'll get; we're done for. ;-P
