I have a Black Diamond head lamp but I don't think it can be strapped onto my Stihl helmet/screen mask?

Anybody else use a head lamp with one of these helmets?

Do you think it is safe to be cutting when visability is low enough that you can't see without additional light?

No, but sure want Pic's!

I'm trying to process a load of logs.
It's not like I'm cutting down trees.

Darn it! Here hold my beer... lol If its got a strap on the light and a little duct tape. Face shield would have to stay down.

Little early to be drinking beer, eh?

I've seen clip-ons for hats, but the brim on the screen shield is not that deep, plus they prob. don't have as much candlepower.

Cant drink all day if you dont get started early...... But Seriously Coon hunting supplies should give you some good answers. Most are wearing helmet lighting systems!

That's a good idea, I would'na thought of that.

I have three headlamps - 2 are led with a separate battery pack, and the wires are too short. The other is an old Petzel, which could maybe work (with duct tape!).

I just thought there was something already out there instead of a duct tape solution.
Then again, the non-duct tape solution could be big bucks!

I've read that there are head lamps and bike lamps that come with mounting systems for helmets.
How about riding in the dark on a bike for safety?

I got a Rayovac head lamp at HD. 100 lumins. 2 power levels. Rubber strap for hard hat.

Walmart has those head lamps, too.

If had to cut at night, I'd want the full compliment of lights like the night shift road crews have.

I got a 65 watt flourescent work light, but it ain't light the ones the road crews use, for sure.
I'll see how they work, and if I don't feel good about it, I'll give up.

You mentioned bike lights... I wonder if you could attach one to the chain brake like you would to handlebars...

check out the Surfire LED Headlamps....I did not set the price. I have a couple of their flashlights and they make a quality product

Just posted some pics an another forum and remembered this thread so thought I'd post em here.

Haven't used the headlamp on the helmet yet since I havent done any night time cutting since having the headlamp but even in its 'stock' form I think it would work out well. Its a Zebralight H51 single AA headlamp/flashlight that since I bought it have used for just about everything. The thing is so small and ridiculously bright for just 1 AA. But of course with only 1x AA its also pretty short runtimes, but luckily it has 7 modes and the medium modes lasts for many hours - plus throwing and AA or two in the pocket is pretty easy. Its also easy to everyday carry in your pocket (includes pocket clip). Very versatile. Tough too all aluminum and waterproof to IPX8. Comes with extra o rings too. No I'm not affiliated with Zebralight but since its a brand you wont find at a department store I feel it needs a little extra publicity whenever it can get it.

Its so small that the rim of my Rockman helmet does cut off the bottom part of the beam but still quite usable. I larger headlamp like the previously posted plastic one sits further forward and would get around the rim better. But also might interfere with the face shield being able to flip up if thats important to you.

Here are some pics:

And here is the light itself which makes a nice right angle flashlight when not in the headlamp band. Just a little bigger than an AA battery.

Pretty nice. It's not important for me to raise the face shield, unless I have to spit (I've forgotten to do that on occasion, lol).
I've used the Rayovac several times on the pile of logs, bringing logs down the pile and cutting some up. So far, just to extend the work time some. It comes off easy and I put it on my hat - the rubber head band worked okay, and I could see a little better when bringing the rounds back on the lawn tractor. Thankfully, I've finished cutting and moving the rounds and now I'm on to splitting and stacking - ugh.
It's amazing the performance you can get for little money - the powerful leds have come down a lot.

I use my Husq Helmet for wood splitting as well as cutting. My headlamp wraps around that sucker pretty well.

My headlamp is one of my favorite tools. I used it last night wiring an outlet in the basement. I split a couple cord of wood with it last fall too. Not sure the brand, but it has a strap that goes around your head (east and west) and then one that goes over the top. I think I spend $20 on it from Lowes.

If you are looking for headlamps I would suggest at least checking dealextreme: http://www.dealextreme.com/c/headlamps-906

They are some very cheap options. I have bought too many flashlights from there. Shipping is slow, but its very cheap.
