I've got an older Harman PF100 - serial no. is #12XX. Put a new igniter in the other day - new models are the fifteen fin. Went to fire it up this morning and it wasn't starting on automatic. Stove/vents/the whole nine yards are cleaned out. But when put my fingers into the burn pot right over igniter - it's just barely warm. Igniter light is lit up on circuit board. So I ended up switching to manual mode. I'm beginning to wonder if the igniter wasn't the problem in the first place. I ran it all last winter in manual mode - it does heat our 2500 sq. ft. home. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You could hook up a multimeter in line with the igniter and check that the board is sending enough voltage down the line. Those ignitors run 110Vac and 306 Watts if I remember correctly. If your board is sending the correct voltage then it could be a bad igniter or it could be insufficient airflow around the igniter so you should check that there are no blockages near the igniter (but I have only seen that happen once on a Breckwell).

if it is getting warm it is working so check to see that all the carbon/clinker is sraped off the burn pot and that the air holes are cleaned ,there are 5 or 6 rows of holes ,may need to take a small drill bit in your fingers and ream them out. also that the cleanout area where the ignitor is located is cleaned out well with a vacuum.

when installing the new igniter....if you mounted the plate on the bracket wrong, it will prevent ignition. its an easy mistake. the plate should be flush with the top of the bracket, if its protruding from the bracket it causes the air to deflect oddly. might want to give that a "look-see".
