Are prices shifting lately?

I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper than those prices around you/us.

Pellets at the pellet dealers/house's have already started to climb. The box stores are low because of the pellet war. I don't expect them to stay this low all season.

Fiber is getting low for some of the pellet mills(see Barefoot, Turman supplies). I'm betting the only brands that wont have fiber issues are the log to chip mills! IMHO the fun hasn't started yet!

Prices are going up here in western NY state.......

At $197/ton I would buy. I just picked up 10 bags of Green Supreme's from my Lowes. Never seen them in my area so I had to try them out. Love the clear bag, but hate the $5.97 per bag price. Thats just shy of $300/ton. So at your prices buy.

I long have wondered why Lowes and HD have different prices? They were $177 last yr when they were $187 in your area.

Rise in cost is what is perdicted. It hasn't really started yet, But with not much as far as new housing(the fiber for pellets comes from waste wood products that come from lumber production) things may get tight. This is what has been forcast. Could be wrong or even a market ploy/scare? But I'm not one to take chances.

The slacked economy may keep some things in check? But if there isn't any available fiber resources, It will make things interesting. Like I said above, Log to chip pellets maybe all we have to fall back on if things go haywire!

prices at the bloomfield ct stores both lowes and home depot are at 197.00$

Prices were supposed to "skyrocket" after the spring pre buys were through. Pellets in my area stayed the same or went up SLIGHTLY, box stores like TSC & HD still have them for $197 per. Stove shops are a bit higher depending what you buy.

So I guess now that spring pre buys are over I need to worry about fiber shortage? Or is it heating season normal price increases? Or is it...???

Last I checked, the economy sucks and demand is stagnant at best for most things. I doubt you will see much of an increase except in some higher priced areas tombegin with.

Let me qualify this with, this is only my opinion & I respect all the other opinions that have posted so far-many of those posters have far more knowledge of the pellet industy than I. I have more of a general overall view of things...

Oil was at 76$ today. At 2.65 a gallon for home heating oil my pellet stove gets turned off. It looks like home heating oil prices may drop.... Compare last years oil price to home heating oil price....

It has to go all the way down to $1.74/gallon for me. Not likely this season, but then again given the idiots out there it just might, or not.

$197 a ton at Lowes and Home Depot in this area. Sam's Club was more expensive for similar quality.

I wouldn't wait. I think the saying is, a ton in the garage is better than 2 trips from the oil man...or something like that.

I would agree that prices are probably as low as we will see them go. Gas and oil prices are going down though and an election is getting closer...what do you think will happen?

IMHO the season hasn't even started yet. The crunch will come once the season is in full swing. Take a close look at the Barefoots and Turman brands. First to show signs of fiber shortage. Hamer is rumored to be next. It may not be until later this season, but we will see lower stacks!

There are many pellet buyers that haven't even purchased their fuel yet. Wait until we get the first cold nights to start the seasons rush for fuel.

197 at the box stores here in Upstate NY, the rush did not happen yet....but then again, last year, no change in price happened until close to end of season, so its like the weather forecast.

Pellets should easily beat oil down to the 2.00 USD/gallon region (roughly), not sure when that was the last time around, but I think thats a while back. google this little beauty - or its update: HEAT-CALC-Vsn-D_1-09.xls

I am buying what I need for one season and I try to buy it late summer/early fall, when the prices seem reasonable. If I run out of pellets in February I can still decide what to do depending on oil price vs. pellet vs. electric. I hopefully have a wood stove next year and yet another option to pick from...

Prices for #2 fuel oil is still high in ct. But it will drop. How far is the question...

Looking at what I paid this year for pellets. (250/ton average) vs what I normally pay for oil I should break even around 2.50 ish. That was using a calc much like one you posted...

I was at Lowe's this evening. Price is now $298.50 a ton up from $197. 00 Hope everyone is stacked up by now! Oink Oink.

WOW! I was at a Lowe's in southern tier of NY. $207.00 a ton. Which is interesting because at the beginning of September they were 197.00, early October they were 224.00, and now down to 207.00. Brand they have are Green Supreme. Yep, I didn't need any but I still bought some.

Probably due to HD not dropping its prices. Figuring(cause we all caught on) that we will still use the 10% coupon. Final cost of the Lowes pellets = $186.30

Little do they know that HD also excepts that coupon Final cost of the HD pellets = $177.30

Sounds like to me that HD has a larger stash. Lowes pile is dwindling and they are now paying more for the current pellets than they bargained for. This is why we call it a war. Not just dollars invovled in how the pellet bounces.
