Nice professional video showing how secondary burn works...

Nice find! This makes it easier to understand and explain to my kids!

Wow, what a great video, perhaps our mods will find it deserving of a sticky!
Wish there was a similar video for a Cat stove. (or maybe there is?)
and one comparing the two methods, for that matter, comparing the two types against an older stove type. Very interesting. Thanks for posting it.

Edit: sorry, I posted my reply after this sat on my screen for a while and before there were several new replies I had not seen!

Yes, the Castine was predecessor to the T6.

So I just bought and installed an RSF Delta 2. I'm assuming that it will do secondary burn, but I'm not sure... I sure didn't see anything about this when I bought it!

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Sam

I know you have a T-6 but thought you may have had a Jotul at one time..

Before he came over to The Dark Side of The Force. Steel.

In a pretty overcoat. ;-)

What am I doing wrong if I am not getting secondary burns like that?

It seems like I will get them early on, but when my box is heated up, maybe 4-5 hours into the burn, they are not that crazy like in the video.

All I heard was blah blah blah blah blah... and my ADD kicked in after a minute or so.

You are not doing anything wrong. Strong visual secondary combustion only occurs while the wood is rapidly outgassing and being reburned as secondary combustion. This only lasts a short while, maybe 30 min in a small firebox and 60-90 minutes in a large one. At 4 hrs into the burn the wood has completely outgassed and only charcoal is burning.

That was a pretty cool video. Now if you will excuse me I have to go add some combustible cellulose cylinders to my high Performance Combustion Machine. ;-)
