Two addt'l notes:

1. We've had a spurt of a few warmer days now with no rain. Since it's still early in the season, I'm gonna go ahead and move ~2-3 weeks worth of wood into the garage/under the porch to keep it dry. I'm burning mostly pine in the shoulder season, and pine seems to absorb rain the most, so I've got to take advantage of the dry days.

2. I burned my first 2 fires using trader joe's paper bags for kindling. I probably won't do that again unless I'm out of newspaper. I found ALOT of black ash in my driveway that appears to be partially burnt flecks of the bags. Nonetheless, they did fire up all the wood :)

Yep
Burning 1/2 loads, mostly spruce.

going to fire up the stove and enjoy the first Bruins game of the year.........possibly with a couple of "Llama Lagers"

Popped it once two weeks ago. My wife lugged in some wood today getting ready for morning. She said they're calling for 30 in the early am. Might pop it till 9 or 10 then let it die out till the next day.

We had upper 30's overnight. We fired up the stove for the first time. Got the house so hot - we kicked the covers off.

Alittle disappointed with my wood. We'll have to see how it goes. A few pieces were showing some hissing and bubbles. Not a good sign at all. We had alot of snow last year that delayed the warm spring stacking and then a short, cold, wet, summer. Hope it's all not like this.

Prince Edward Island, Canada here, last night was my first light. A real burning uglies night....+4c overnight and inside was +13C

Again tonight burning. Dish water on stove for dishes and reheated stir fry in cast iron pan. (consolation for burning before nov 1st)

I have lit an electric fire in the oil filled heaters the last couple of nights. I can wait as long as possible for the "romance" of lugging wood in and leveling out a burn. We are actually having some Fall weather here for a week after years of not having it and the monsoons of August and September. Day before yesterday was the first day it didn't rain in a month and a half.

Tonight will be the first time both stoves are burned. Working on the coal bed in the PE now, and the Dixette is getting ready to fire up the 13.

Forecast for the Island is 56 - 32 F. Knowing Icey Hollow as I do, we're getting ready now. We'll see 35F, I figure. Sure was chilly when I took Murph out @ 6Am today.

Threw some sheets on the house plants still outside, will bring them in this weekend. And we're up to the 80's next week !

I had thought I would be spared this ;-)

After hunting speed goats in the constant wind today a nice little fire was in order.

There's a breed of goat that's addicted to Meth? Why doesn't Animal Planet cover that?
