Feeling the Heat

I have a harmon Accentra, and it seems to be working fine (it's still clean from the summer), but when I ran it last week, the room air blower kept ramping up and down, sometimes it sounded like it was stalling and starting.

I turned the blower speed all the way up, and it sounded better, but it still ramped up and down a little (you could hear it)

any ideas on how to fix this problem
(any ideas on what the problem is?)

Having not seen the schematic on your stove, I can't say for absolute sure, but fans are generally run using a Triac either a stand alone or one thats built into the control board.

Some of the fans have a "Hall effect" sensor built into the motor that sends a speed signal to the controller and this allows the board to regulate the fan speed.

The triac may be going bad or the speed sensor circuit (if used) is having issues.

If you take a peek at the control board you should be able to see if the fan control is separate from the main board.

Also if the fan has four wires coming from it and not the normal two and a ground then it likely has a speed sensor.

Take a peek see and let us know whatcha find.

Are you in room temp or stove temp?
If in room temp could be defective or poorly placed temp sensor
stove temp could be bad esp.

lworst case you may need a new board or blower.
something is telling your stove to distibute more heat it should be one of the above

mine does this. i thought it was supposed to? ive only run it in room temp mode. the sensor is about six feet away. this is the length that came with it. we need some accentra owners to chime in here and confirm this is a problem.

I had this same problem last year with my Accentra - did a thorough cleaning in the spring, stove sat all summer, started it in the fall and the problem appeared and would not go away. I ran the stove on manual, auto, room temp, stove temp, high, low - you name it - the problem you describe continued.

Then, we had a real cold snap, so I ran the stove on high for several days (on high, the problem did not persist - the fan ran strong and consistently), and the issue seemed to resolve itself and has not recurred. We normally run the stove on mid to low settings in the fall, so running it on higher settings was a bit unusual - perhaps it cleaned off whatever sensor was acting up?
