Besides a coupler is there a technical name for this? I've searched images and HVAC websites to no avail.
McD is the manufacturer.

Looks like straight thread. If so perhaps electrical.

Is this a coupler for cold water into a house?

any chance of getting a picture of what the inside looks like? i.e. a picture looking at one of the ends

this is a coupler for the infamous "grease laying cable"...can be found on shelf next to "muffler bearings". is joke, I dunno. looks nice and clean though.

hmmm, got me for sure. Ive never seen anything like it. At first thought, the larger threaded area looks to be some type of compression style fitting where a pipe would be inserted then once the fitting was tight, the rubber would squeeze to the pipe to make a water/airtight connection. Its the smaller end with the clamp that is throwing me off....are those threads inside the clamp part? Or are they just sharp ridges, kid of like a shark bite fitting?

Being that it is brass, I would be nearly certain that it is either a water or gas fitting. Ive never seen brass in electrical.

Yes. Those are threads in the smaller clamp end of the fittings.

On second thought, it reminds me a lot of a "Dresser Coupling", but ive never seen one like this with the clamp ends. Unless it is something new...

This is a coupler that sewer/water contractors use often. It is used to hook copper to copper or galvanized to copper. This one is most likely soft copper to soft copper or poly/poly w/ thimble or poly/copper.

McD on it is McDonald which makes alot for the underground water utilities
