Hi, there is another thread going on this same topic. I didn't want to hijack that thread so I started this one. I cannot find the k-factor of my hearth pad anywhere. On it, under it, around it, online, etc. It is made by American Panel and is a 40" polished copper hearth pad. It cost 310.00. Does anyone have a suggestion where I can locate the k-factor? I just want to make sure I also have the proper pad installed. My Harman P43 says a k-factor of 2.24 or lower is required. Here is the copy and paste from the manual:

Material
used for floor protection must have a k-factor of 2.24 or lower.
Example: 1" thickness of Durock® is rated at 1.92 k per inch,
which would meet the requirement.

I am getting paranoid. Just want the family to be safe as I plan on running the stove 24/7. The installer is useless when it comes to finding out information, unfortunately. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Contact the maker of the hearth pad.

I've done that but they haven't responded. Hopefully they will.......someday.

My pad has a small sticker on the side that I noticed only because it was peeling off. Different manufacturer. If they don't respond, maybe try calling them?

I didn't think much of it until the OP of the other thread said their vinyl floor was discolored and looked scorched. I used my P61A last night for the first time and only about 2 hours and noticed that the base of the stove gets very hot. I will be switching it for a thermal pad that meets the P61A's requirements.

Well it took almost a week to get an email from the manufacturer, but better late than never. My hearth pads k is 1.83 and that's below the 2.24 recommended. I am good to go. Thanks guys.

The new laws for hearth pads are very strict on requirements of a hearth pad.. Technically K values are gone, period you do not do a rating based on that number. You have 2 types of pads a Ember protection type I and a thermal protection type II, All Harman stoves excluding the XXV and the accentra require the thermal protection pad with approximatly 1.1 R value. Again keep in mind K values are gone so it meeting the requirements of the K value doesn't mean it meets the requirements of the R.. questions? feel free to contact me.

Be safe, fabricate a riser to set your hearth pad on.

Make the riser from a couple layers of Cement board and then just trim the edges so it looks nice.

Two layers of cement board as a backer will add more than enough none insulation to protect the floor/carpet or that's under the main pad.

Many of the makers of the stove/hearth pads simply don't have the info available, and when they will not return calls/emails it tells the sad story.

Good luck
