FIREVIEW SHIPPED

I learned my Fireview was shipped on Monday, and will arrive on Thursday. 1 week ahead of schedule. YES! Last time I talked to someone at Woodstock they said the stove was scheduled to be shipped on the 17th which was a week late. After a few calls and emails, looks like they got it out ahead of schedule. I should have the stove broke in and burning by the end of the weekend.

What do you mean? Does the stove give off smoke in the house or are you talking about the paint curing stink?
What kind of breakin fires are required?

I received a e-mail from the freight company stating my stove is behind schedule and there is a 95% chance it would be delivered a day late. Well this morning I called and it was there. It arrived last night so it was on time. I picked it up shortly there after. The bottom of the pallet had some damage, and the stove was sitting on it kind of lopsided, but the stove didn't have any damage. What a great looking stove! Heavy as hell, but easy to move around with a appliance dolly.

I read the manual, hooked her up, and currently starting the second break-in fire. I had to call Woodstock because the manual does not get real specific on break-in fires. They told me the first fire should be a small kindling fire and let it burn out. Second fire should be a medium fire. Then the 3rd break-in fire can be hot. The first fire I could see some moisure spots on the soapstone escaping, and a little hissing every once in awhile. I just engaged the cat for the first time. It slowed the flames right down, and there is a little secondary combustion in the fire box. Nice looking fire. Just a little bit of white smoke (steam?) out the chimney. I'll run her up to about 400 deg this evening and then let the fire burn out. I can't wait for tomorrow when I can run her hot.

A little while ago I heard a pop inside the stove, I looked inside and it looks like a small chunk of soapstone blew out the side of the firebox! Dang it, the stove is only 350! The hole is about the size of a large pea. I don't think it goes all the way through. Guess I can patch it with some furnace cement.

I don't think I rushed the break-in. My first fire was just a kinling fire. The stove temp barley reached 100. Then I let it cool down to room temp, and started the second fire. They were both slow burning, gradual fires, not blazin hot. I'll have to call Woodstock and see what they say.

No pipe with mine. I bought stove pipe online from Hart's hearth. I had to buy 2 ea 90 degree elbows and 1 ea 2' straight section. I was a little worried about all the elbows reducing my draft, but so far it seems to draft fine. I just fired her up about 2 hrs ago and the temp is just starting to climb over the 300 mark.

I talked to Woodstock today about the chip that blew out inside the firebox. The guy I talked to said he only heard of this happening once before with a stove that was stored for about a month inside a barn before being installed. Also told me to keep an eye on it, if it gets worse they will send me a new stove, but he didn't think it was anything to get alarmed about or have to patch.

Keep those break-in fires low. You will notice some moisture escaping from the stone, and it will stink up the house.

Yeah, it's bigger than I thought to. And heavy! It's going to take some gettin use to. I have plenty of wood to play with the rest of the year to figure out how this stove works.

I think I'm getting the hang of it. I had a good all night burn (8hrs) last night and didn't have the damper as low as Woodstock reccommends, I had it on 2, and Woodstock reccommends 1 or less. But I still had lots of coals and a hot stove. House temp was 71 upstairs and 75 downstairs. I loaded 4 splits about 10am this morning, let her catch good, engaged the cat, then throttled her down to just below 1, and she's still cookin over 300! BTW, the glass has stayed spotless since first lite off.
