Im installing my enviro m55 cast fs next week. Im planning to go straight out but it has to be 5 feet to clear my vented soffit. Im concerned that wind may push exaust back under the soffit. My other option is to go up through the soffit and continue on past the second story and clear the roof. That would be 22ft. I dont know if that is to much of a run. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Check your stoves installation manual. You are more than well within the limits on 4" pipe for a 22' vertical run.

22' of vertical is an EVL of 11 when the total vent EVL exceeds 15 you should use 4" you'll have to consult other than most installation manuals to find the limit for 4" venting.

Things other than normal exhaust flow restrictions come into play with large vent systems.

I'd be more concerned with any horizontal run that exceeds 4' most stove vendors have issues with that situation.

Thanks smokey

Id rather go up. Unfortunatley 4" Pipe is so expensive. Im sure Ill wind up going up especially if 5' is to long for a horizontal run.

According to Travis Ind., 4" pipe has a max. of 33' (straight up).

You won't have a problem with a vertical run like that. In fact, it'll probably lend itself to draft out all the smoke in a hurry if you lose power to that unit during run. It is a longer run to accumulate flyash, hoever, but not as bad a a 5' long horizontal run will be.
