My intake/secondary burn tubes come from the top front of the stove and drop down about 2 inches overall to the rear. The firebrick/baffle doesnt extend from one side to the other side. There is about a 1 inch space on each side if I center them. I bought a brick 2 days ago and burned with it in place and it didnt burn as well as it did without it. However they didnt fit perfectly one side to the other, as one side had to ride up on the tube on one side in order to stay up there. Outside temp was 35 this a.m. I should also mention that the glass had soot build up on one side as well as the brick I just removed. Is this the way these epa stoves are built? Is there a space on each side? The dealer in Asheville didnt think it was a concern. He said that they will actually leave a space to assist with a poor draft. What gives?

You're saying that you can move the baffle boards and create a space left and right? And/or you no matter what have a space left and right? That is not how my 74 is built. I have 2 baffle boards that fit snug in there (and are kind of a pain to get out btw) and the only space it in the front for the smoke to travel up the front of the glass.

You are saying you boards are too small? If so this is not right! Call Buckstoves!

I run it pen. Its in my living room.

Strange......your baffle board are bricks! Mine are ceramic fiber boards. I will take pix.

FWIW, tomorrow Im gonna have a friend that does masonry cut the spare brick that I have and make them come together evenly and see what that does.

Loco- Did you buy this stove new?

Sorry, was calling for someone else running a 21 to verify. I kinda figured you were burning one. %-P Guess I should have so who else is running the 21?

Should be easy to verify once someone else familiar with the stove speaks up.

I'm guessing the previous owner either wore out or broke a baffle board(s) and went the cheap route to fix it. Again, I don't have this model of stove but I'm about 95% sure it came with baffle boards not firebrick. A quick call to buck is all it will take to verify.....

That stove is not going to run right until there is a solid, uniform insulating surface above the burn tubes. I suspect weezer is correct. Get the proper baffle boards in there and it will run like a whole different stove.

I called this a.m. and the tech guy said that my older model does in fact have a brick lined baffle but that it should have no gaps. I have a concrete/mason friend cutting one tomorrow to add to it. Ill see what happens then since its predicted to get rather cold (32-35) this week. Thanks for the help fellas.

You might want to try putting a 1/2" kaowool blanket on top of the bricks for a bit better efficiency. Maybe you can PM xman for some?
