Fire, I has it.

I've been fired since last Friday. Just idling though as daytime temps were high enough to be without but night time was just a little chilly. Will need it tomorrow for sho though.

I had one fire in the Heritage two weeks ago. I'm not complaining. The last three years I was burning by the end of September.

82 today :gulp: Lovely. I was fully burning last year at this time. It will drop to the thirties at night mid week though.

Yep, starting Thursday we will be in the mid to low 50s for the high and upper 30s for the low. I'll finally have the Encore connected tomorrow night. Looking forward to giving it a test run.

Speaking of burning, really looking forward to hearing the difference between the 13 and the 30 from you.

I've burned about a wheelbarrows worth so far this season. It's looking like the BK will be getting a night load on a pretty regular basis now.

Usually burning by at least the first week of October for chill chasers at least. Dang it I am not starting a fire before the first of November this year. If I have to eat breakfast in a snowmobile suit. :smirk:

Temps dropped into the low 40's overnight and I lit the stove this morning. I've had a small fire going all day.

It's supposed to be in the mid 30's here in sw Kanas tonight. Some possible frost I think. The Oslo is still cold yet. I'm waiting on my stove top and double wall flu thermometers to get here before I fire up for the break in fires. Looking forward to firing though!

Go ahead and break it in with a small kindling only fire. Then one with 3, 2-3" splits. Then one with 5, 2-3" splits. After that it's time to get some heat out of that stove.

Yeah. It isn't gonna split down the middle. Get some heat in that place. People managed to heat with wood for a few thousand years before thermometers came along.

Use BeGreen's suggestions and light that thing up.

Agreed. If concerned, just pick up a stove top thermometer. The thermometer for the Double wall flu is a nice item, but not a must have. I sure don't have one, nor plan on purchasing one.

FWIW, I broke in the Castine in one day with 3 fires. The 4th fire was with a few big splits. No issues, all was well in Fredrikstad.

I think we will break in the 30 end of this week....
Looking forward to it.
It has been getting a lil chilly at night here but not bad...
I don't chill easily...or that mother would been fired up by now.... :cheese:

Been runnin 24/7 since last Friday. Idling thru the daytime and mid power thru the night. 30 is gonna be awesome when it really gets cold. Going from a 1.75 cf to a 3.5 cf box makes the 30 seem like a garage with a cast iron door.............LOL

Highs in the 40's the next few days, might have to go 24/7 and burn low and slow.

Here it is Oct 18th and I am glad to say I've only had 4 "take the chill off" fires and let them burn out. This is a great time to get rid of the uglies and small rounds. Oct in my parts has been well above normal temps so I can't complain.

Same here, no need for anything but a couple shoulder fires to take the chill off. With the way the weather is looking I may just make it to November without lighting again.

64f in the house when we got home last night. Had the fire going all night, and filled it up again this morning before we left. Annoyed to still be finding wet wood after cutting 2 years ago, splitting last winter, and stacking this spring... arrg. Some of this stuff is coming from a pile that got restacked low to the ground, so I think ground moisture is playing a part here (even though it was on a skid).

You may have some time to work those damp pieces, maybe restack them higher or get them in near the stove.

Well if 3.5 is a garage what is 5.5 cu ft? 30yrs ago 3.5 would have been a parlor stove heeehe.

An antique barrel with a pie plate in the door.

Yep, I hope so BB. If I can pull off an install in four days. Going to get the materials @3:15pm today. If all goes well, I'll have a new hearth pad and the pipes going throught the wall by Saturday or maybe Friday night. I can't wait to fire her up, my toes are cold right now!

No just saying today's big stoves were yesterday's small stoves. But if your referring to the antique barrels that never warp or crack and can basically last through a million heat cycles then I guess them too.
